I just returned from the most amazing week in Seminyak Bali with Goddess Retreats. From the moment I booked, through the last drop off at the airport, the entire experience was amazing and more than it promised to be. First, the compound where the retreat is in Seminyak is STUNNING. Each of the villas is so beautifully well-appointed, comfortable, with the right mix of incredible luxury but rustic and down to earth charm. Little details like relaxing music, cookies, and motivational saying cards with turn-down each night make the trip so special. Each and every member of the staff cannot do enough to help make the week memorable. The facilitators are amazing, Gina, Jess, Yuni, Rosa, and Lisa make you each feel as though you are family and in a supported and fun environment. The retreat allows for as much soul searching as you want to do without pushing it (and yoga) on you. The spa treatments were so relaxing and the ladies in the spa were warm and so talented. The bliss trips were so fun but honestly, I enjoyed relaxing by my pool with smoothies. I could go on and on about this amazing, life-changing, experience. Kudos to Goddess Retreats for creating such a remarkable haven for women from all over the world to come together to celebrate femininity, Bali, and independence.

This is a long overdue review. I stayed at Goddess Retreats back in August 2019, and I had an amazing time! I wanted to go on a solo vacation, and after A LOT of online research, I landed on Goddess Retreats. It’s a women’s only resort which makes you feel safe, and once you step inside, it’s like an island paradise even though you’re a few miles from the actual beach. I got a private room in the main area. Some women even stayed in shared areas with a private pool. It’s such a lush environment with pools, greenery, outdoor yoga area, outdoor dining area, outdoor lounging, and indoor AND outdoor spas areas. Even my shower was a private outdoor experience.

Food - You are VERY well fed. All but two dinners are covered, and even those meals are planned for you, but you can change your mind as a group if you’d like. You also get free juices and smoothies WHENEVER. You room is also replenished with amazing chocolate chip cookies every day. Lunches and dinners are delicious. You can also ask for special items based on allergies or preferences in advance. A lot of the foods are typical of Bali/Asian culture, but they will also throw in an English Tea Party. Not to provide too much TMI, but I’m typically very irregular, and the food in Bali had the opposite effect on me. Absolutely no Bali Belly. Everything is fresh, healthy, and fantastic.

Activities – I did the general Bali package. This includes 3 activities that happen every other day. I chose Batik Printing, Botanical Tour/Botanical Making Class, and the Tanah Lot tour. Batik Printing – great experience especially if you like crafts. You’ll get to pick from lots of premade designs or make your own. You’ll get to take home a 18x24(ish) finished cloth. For the Botanical activity, you tour and then get to make 4 items from scratch like lotion, sun screen, ‘tiger bomb’, and one other thing I can’t remember. I don’t really recommend this activity unless you’re okay with not taking what you make home with you. The experience itself was great, but if you don’t refrigerate all your product, they go bad. I don’t know about you, but It took me 24 hours to fly home, so just pitch them. Last activity was Tanah Lot. A truly humbling experience. Goddess Retreats will dress you in traditional garb, so you don’t need to bring anything extra. Then you drive to the temple, get blessed, and take part in a private ceremony at the top of the template. It’s a little crowded on the ground, but you have to be in very traditional garb in order to par take in the temple ceremony, so it was just my fellow goddesses and our tour guide with the leader up top.

Other women chose activities like jewelry making, standup paddle boarding, white water rafting, and snorkeling. You submit your choice for activities before you arrive, but some of them have a minimum requirement, so it’s possible you’ll want to have a backup or two in mind. I originally signed up for the downhill bike ride and had to make a switch which was totally fine with me. I’d rather do an activity with someone than alone.

As I mentioned I did the Bali package, there were a few other women who chose the Fitness and Surf packages. All parties enjoyed their package. No one did the Yoga package on my trip because those are on different weeks and at a different location. The fitness girls went to a gym and did different activities (e.g., boxing) at 11am every day except 1 day. One day was set aside for an activity of their choosing like the both I mentioned. The Surfing package is surfing every day (usually in the early morning) with 1 day for an activity of their choosing. You can be a pure beginner for surfing, so don’t be afraid to signup!

Other activities – yoga and spa treatments. Yoga takes place 2x per day – early morning before breakfast and just before dinner. I’m ashamed to say this, but I didn’t participate in yoga. I was either too tired or doing something else. It’s a regret of mine, but when I go back, I’ll definitely do it. From what I was told, beginners can EASILY participate. Spa treatments – oh my gosh, this was amazing. You WILL go to the spa every day, and sometimes you can easily squeeze in two treatments in a day. We’re talking full body massages with or without hot stones, mani/pedis, scalp massages and hair masque treatments, foot massages,…

The last activity I want to mention is the Canang sari. This is a daily offering the Balinese make and put out in front of their homes, business, etc as ‘thank yous’. One of the leaders is Balinese, and she shared and modeled how to make these offerings. She gave a full background on where these came from, what they mean, and how important they are to the Bali culture. We each made our own and put them outside our rooms. Very rewarding experience.

Shopping – If you choose Bali, Fitness, or Surfing packages, you’ll be at the Seminyak resort. This is the shopping district. The Seminyak market is nearby to get any trinkets you may want for family. If you can, also go to the Ubud market. We were able to go after one of the activities. If you’re looking for a really cool quilt, don’t grab it when you see it. You WILL find them in the Ubud market, but other than that, they’re in maybe one other area on the island, but NOT in Seminyak. I’m still sour I didn’t buy it. If you want to buy something, I don’t recommend thinking you can go back later to get it, especially if it’s not in Seminyak. Although on paper, Ubud isn’t that far away, it takes 1.5 hours to get there. Another point – everything is pretty far away. If you’re not afraid to ride on the back of a moped, do it – it’s much faster but can be quite scary.

Staff – The girls who help lead the retreats are so nice, helpful, outgoing, and genuine. They are there to make your experience the best it can be. There is always someone there whether you have questions, need a money exchange, or just want to chat. They are very open to share their backgrounds and how they came to lead at Goddess Retreats. In addition to the lead girls, you have the cooking and spa staff. These are all very sweet women who love what they do. Get to know them!

Random info – The retreat offers you universal plug adapters, so you don’t need your own unless you need it for airports and such. The women at the retreat will do same-day money exchanges for you (give in morning, get in afternoon) at the best rates available. All bathrooms have toiletries – shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap. You don’t need any of that. Bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, and deodorant. They also have lots and lots of bug spray. You’ll need it. Shots – Nothing is required, but id’ be safe and make sure you’re up-to-date on typhoid, polio, hepatitis B, and Measles/Mumps/Rubella.

At the end of the trip, the retreat will take a group photo of your group and give you a nice print of it. Additionally, you’ll get a little goodie bag with toiletries, tote, tshirt, and sarong. Then when your home and already missing your vacation, they’ll email you the photos and recipes from the trip, including those awesome cookies!

The very last thing i'll say is you will meet an amazing group of girls from all backgrounds. They will become very good friends. On my trip, girls were from Australia, Switzerland, England, and US.

I think I’ve covered just about everything. If you’re looking for an all-inclusive, fully planned, safe, fun, unique, and fulfilling experience, don’t think twice – go to Goddess Retreats. I’m more of an informative writer, and I have a hard time instilling emotion in writing. But trust me, you will not regret booking this trip. Just book it!

Dear Goddess Rie06, Thank you so much for this fabulous and detailed testimonial. We are thrilled that you had an amazing time with us! Our team consists of big-hearted professionals who live and work in the region of our retreats, which allows us to not only provide our guests with the highest quality of care & instruction, but also facilitate an in-depth and intimate travel experience that most day-to-day tourists could never imagine exists. We are a warmhearted team that has developed the priceless gift of intuitive knowledge to facilitate a magical group experience. We know how to uncover those special hidden gems each guest needs to make their individual experience blissful. For environmental reasons we have discontinued the provision of toiletries in the goodie bag, as we are heading to a plastic-free Bali, as part of our effort to support the government's program. The resources has been allocated to support an eco-recycling foundation on the island. We truly appreciate your detailed feedback on your retreat experience and recommendation. We hope to welcome you back some time! Warmest regards from the team XOXO

Goddess Retreats went the extra mile upon booking! My room was a cool temp with comfy beds and adorable decor. Cookies are prepared daily fresh by your bed. Each room is unique and luxurious with personal swimming pools and tropical landscaping. The staff was accommodating, knowledgeable, generous, and fun. Yoga was relaxing with challenging moments to push your mental stability and physical flexibility. Food was exotic and fresh at every meal! Smoothies and fresh juices prepared throughout the day. If there's room for multiple massages, manicures, facials per day, trip coordinators will make sure you're taken care of. Excursions were incredible! I recommend Tanah Lot, Ubud Bike Tour, and Silver Jewelry Making. If you're looking for a rejuvenating trip and don't want to have to plan each moment, this is the perfect trip for you. You will have a cultural experience and feel like a queen in Bali!....Only warning: there are a lot of mosquitoes. If you have a strong insect repellent, bring it!

Dear Goddess sarahstites, Thank you so much for your beautiful review on your recent retreat experience! We are so happy to hear that you loved your Bali home! We don’t believe you need to hide away on a lonely mountain top or stark ashram to enjoy a truly transformational yoga retreat. Goddess Sanctuary is a softer, gentler word, a quietly elegant property, traditional style villa full of fanciful feminine details. It's lovely to hear that your retreat experience was wonderful in every way! As one of the earliest pioneers in creating retreats for women since 2003, our focus and passion for creating magical experiences that bring women together in a positive and empowering group environment, is all we have done, and we take pride in doing it exceptionally well. The mosquitoes ... what can we say. We've done what we can to control the population of mosquitoes in the retreat grounds. It depends on the season and bringing tropical strength insect repellent is a very good advice! We hope to welcome you back some time in the future! Warmest regards from the team XOXO

Bliss is how I would sum up my stay at Goddess Retreats.
From the moment I got out of the crazy Bali traffic and walked into the open lounge area overlooking the pool and gardens I didn't want to leave! The manicured gardens are luscious and the pool was bigger than I expected from the pictures.
Yuni showed us to our room then we went to our daily spa treatment.
The ladies in the spa were so kind and lovely and all the treatments were rejuvenating - from the variety of massages, to the body scrubs, facials and pedicures, everything was divine.
Our first yoga session overlooking the gardens set us up for a week of staying present.
I signed up for the surf retreat and our daily lessons were absolutely awesome. Buddy, Agnes and the rest of the rip curl surf school were awesome - we were all up on our first day!
The food was fresh with a focus on fresh fruits and vegetables. All dietary requirements were catered for and all of us loved our meals.
Our room was large and comfortable and bathroom was clean and amenities well stocked - the nightly turn down service and homemade cookies beside the bed were a surprise but welcome treat.
The robes we were given for getting to and from our spa treatments (and lounging around in) were super soft and comfortable.
The sights and sounds of Seminyak are right on the doorstep, but honestly I didn't want to drag myself away from the gardens and pool and refreshing smoothies and juices the kitchen staff were all too happy to prepare as needed.
The yoga sessions run by Kin and Jess were relaxing and enjoyable (I only got to access the afternoon sessions due to surf school).
Kin, Yuni, Rosa and Jess were always accessible - and extremely approachable. They accommodated all our last minute changes as much as they could and always with a smile - they made me feel like nothing was too much trouble. We had a problem with our bathroom shower (pressure and heat) and Yuni had it repaired immediately.
A wide range of shopping is on the doorstep too - from markets to boutiques.
The only caveat I would give is the access to 'unlimited' spa treatments is dependant on the number of ladies attending (it was a full retreat during my stay of 19 ladies) that said, most people were able to get a second treatment for the says they wanted one. And 2 ladies stayed off site in a villa about 5 minutes away.
Also, the beach is a hot noisy 15 minute walk away - however it really isn't very beautiful and not worth the time wasted outside of the retreat! If you want to check out a beautiful Balinese beach - take up the bliss day beach day club option as all the girls who went on this loved it.
Finally, while I loved the fresh delicious foods, if you are used to burgers / pizzas / chips / pasta etc and find eating vegetables a challenge, you probably won't enjoy the meals.
I loved every minute of my stay and I was contemplating my return visit before my first was even over!

Personally, I was looking for a women's retreat and wanted one that included yoga but where it wasn't so spiritual that I would feel alienated - basically a "beginner friendly" retreat - and ideally one that would give me the opportunity to surf. The Surf Goddess program was exactly this, and so much more.

The property itself was stunning and certainly more luxurious than I had expected. The property is actually made up of the main villa and 3 smaller villas which all have their own pool and sitting room. My villa was made to accommodate just 3 guests meaning it was always possible to have some quiet time. Having opted to share a room I was a little nervous about feeling crowded but the room was spacious and there were copious amounts of communal space. The food and spa treatments also fell into the luxurious category for me. Every meal was delicious and there was never a chance of going hungry, though my personal favorite was the daily smoothie specials that were available whenever you needed a little pick me up.

The daily yoga provided a wonderful opportunity to learn about different styles that I may not have otherwise tried and deepen my understanding of yoga beyond the mat/studio. Whether you're an experienced yogi or have never tried it both Kin and Jess make it a friendly and positive experience that is worth the early wake-up. For me, the only disappointment was that with the timing of the tides/surf I was not able to do the morning and afternoon practice.

Now, surfing, I cannot say enough positive things about the actual surfing portion of my retreat. During my week there were only two surf goddesses - a beginner and myself and intermediate - which meant that we each had private instruction for the week. The Rip Curl Surfschool was well organized and made you feel very comfortable, what impressed me most was the waiver didn't feel like you were signing your life away but was reassuring you that they would take care of you. My instructor, Budi, was incredible - he was patient when needed but also pushed and challenged me helping me significantly improve throughout the week. Every session was a positive experience full of laughter.

The retreat exceeded all expectations and was better than I could have imagined. I certainly am planning to return and highly recommend it for any lady who is looking for a bit of rejuvenation and is willing to approach it with an open mind.
