We stopped late -around midnight on our way to Miami FLA. Upon entering the room,I immediately killed 2 cockroaches. The room was old and basic patch style repairs were evident. Other than that, the room was generally clean and since it was late, I decided not to tell my wife about the roaches (big mistake). When checking out the next day I informed the desk clerk about the roaches and she just brushed me off. When we arrived in Miami the next day, My wife opened her billfold to remove a credit card and there was a roach inside of it. I'm just happy after a few weeks she has moved on and I don't have to listen to it any more. I will never go back!
We stayed here twice, a week apart. The exterior of the building looks a little aged, as if this is an old location or a re-purposed building, but the interior is exactly what you expect from a Holiday Inn Express.
Both times, I could have sworn I smelled cigarette smoke in the rooms. The staff said it was air freshener. Regardless, a couple hours of running the fan with the window open cleared it out.
The free breakfast was the best part. They were never out of cinnamon rolls (those are half the reason to stay at a Holiday Inn Express anyway) or any other food item, so the kitchen staff was on top of their game.
This is a nice Holiday Inn Express (no dining room, but nice free breakfast), right off of I-95 north of Savannah in Port Wentworth.
The road in is a bit strange in that I-95 exits across another road, so there's a 4 way stop in the middle of an exit???
Once through that, though, it's an easy place to find. The Mexican restaurant next door is excellent, and there is super dining in Savannah itself less than 20 minutes away.
Good staff, very helpful and efficient.
Overall, an excellent stay!
Holiday Inn Express is our choice of hotels and normally I am very pleased. However on this particular time, the hall floor was VERY DIRTY, first floor. The room was as basic as I have ever experienced. Example is the limited number of power outlets...none on the desk, none on the bed side table. Normally there are outlets on the lights at both locations. the one PLUS is that they extend the morning breakfast to 9:30 when normally we find 9:00. That extra 30 minutes was great.
We drove from Tampa, Florida to Savannah, which is about half way home for us, and spent the night at the Holiday Inn Express in Port Wentworth, GA. It was a first for me as I have always preferred Marriot properties, however this was an eye opener. The room was clean, nice and had a very comfortable bed. The free breakfast had many options including a pancake making machine! I think I have found a new favorite hotel chain.
