If you decide to stay at this wayyy out of the way place...do not. Do not...Stay in the Autumn Room.
It's got extremely dirty carpets, smells of damp and must which having the shower in the bedroom only 2feet away from the bed would not help..(see other reports..must be this room) windows barred so can't get out if fire started..ants coming up every day in between the kitchen floor tiles... how this place was ever accepted by SATB as a 3star location must have viewed it over 10yrs ago.. squashed bugs on pillow case..kitchen wall...cupboard smelled musty even after being washed out with hot water and soap...the vanity basin in the toilet area has hot water..the shower has hot water...but the main sink in the kitchen only has cold water.. (10feet of pipe and a few 90° elbows +tap would solve many problems...1 bedside lamp and 1 bedside table...not good....
If the owner would have been on site during our visit we would have DEMANDED our money refunding.. the place was atrocious...we are still in negotiation with booking.com to get our money back even so...Unfortunately.. the owners were away in New Zealand themselves...on their own holiday...
Now the reason why they demanded the full payment up front (the owner said they had been let down before over holiday periods and wanted to ensure payment)
We were told that there would be breakfasts items for us on arrival...which was true...but at the price we were paying anyone and everyone would expect a cooked breakfast...not the rusks..muffins so..oat sachets..muesli and yogurt items that we were left...we are human beings on holiday...not squirell or birds...the pool side lap a was dirty and the chairs and table was full of bird droppings gs...the braai area was full of hardened sauce and other people's fire ashes...very dirty.
This is the worst place I have stayed in..in over 25years of coming to SA..
I have filed similar reports on Google.. Booking.com. . ..travel sa and safari sa as I do not wot people paying these people good money for being ripped off.....
The driveway is at a 45° angle for 15yds then goes to 60° before dropping for down to the garage/car park area at 45°
What did we like....well....we loved meeting Ingrid (mother in law at 70) who was delightful...and monies walking past the doorway in early evening...
But don't go there when the owners are absent as you will receive no help or refunds if you do...I have left this with booking.com to sort out now...more later.
The accommodation is lovely and nothing was too much trouble for the host. The breakfast was delicious. The rooms are clean and neat. We had access to the lovely pool after our morning walks. The views are very nice and you do not feel as if you are in the suburbs. Lovely for a little break from it all.
stayed for two nights. the room was clean and tidy. breakfest was great with many products to choose from. the pool area which has also braai is very nice and if you are a romantic type, lightted up in the evening its just great.
there is a lot to see around and the scenery by the "old road" is fantastic.
the host and staff was very kind and helpful.
wifi did not work in our room but on the top floor with nice terrace it was just fine.
We stayed here in Jan 2015 while visiting family in the area. The setting is peaceful and quiet and the views from the deck are beautiful. The accommodation is spacious, comfortable and clean. All rooms are ensuite which makes for privacy. The lounge dining room area is comfortable and beautifully decorated with an Aloe motive. The decorations are quality obviously hand picked by the owner, no kitsch plastic stuff and prints. The free Wi-Fi is convenient and efficient. There is an abundance of bird live and waking up to the sounds of the birds enhances the experience. The breakfast were excellent and the service was friendly and accommodating. The pool area is well kept and safe for children. It provides a covered area for sitting next to the pool as well as a comfortable braai area. We loved staying at Aloe Ridge and will with out a doubt stay there again. I would recommend this B&B without hesitation!
My husband and I with our two daughters stayed here whilst we were visiting family in Durban. Friends from England with their two sons stayed here with us. The accommodation was brilliant, very spacious, clean, loads of space for storage and very comfortable. We rented all four bedrooms and therefore had the entire bed and breakfast to ourselves which was cleaned daily and breakfast served in the dining area. The rooms were all ensuite with televisions and modern. The views from the communal lounge was exceptional and peaceful. The garden and pool showed an indigenous South African garden and was well maintained which also ensured it was frequented by many local birds. Our kids played by the pool area where there is a lovely decked barbecue area and the pool area is fenced and locked for the children's security. There is a outdoor slide, swings and play gym for the little ones. Although we did not use the option because we had family, Aloe Ridge offered babysitting at an extra cost. The breakfasts were the best part and we could not wait to wake up every morning to a truly South African start to the day. The beds were comfortable. Aloe Ridge also provided a taxi service at very reasonable rates. I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast who are extremely friendly and accommodating.
