Having booked a room with a balcony and a view of the swimming pool, we were disappointed to be shown to a room in the back corner... no balcony, and a view of a brick wall. On top of that, a separate bathroom across the passage. Not at all practical as neither my husband nor I had packed in sleep ware... gowns could be a nice touch in this situation?
The room was spacious. Unfortunately the one bedside lamp did not have a globe in it and there was a faulty plug point. There is a mini bar in the room (which was on the blink) stocked only with a few beers; bottled water would have been nice. And perhaps milk for the coffee station... no tea was provided?
The cracked mirror cupboard doors could easily be disguised with a border of some sorts, looks shabby.
Only one decent sized bath sheet was provided and another very small bath towel.
A basic breakfast buffet with tinned fruit, flavoured yogurt and two basic cereals is on offer, and we were offered a lovely omelette and toast.
The guesthouse is quite attractive, unfortunately a few kitschy touches including paper serviettes and unnecessary plastic flowers...
We went there for the Easter weekend, the staff are very friendly and we had a good time. The best room is number 6, it is huge and has an awesome jet bath and double shower. The breakfast was standard, eggs, bacon, toast, beans and mince. We ate dinner their the first night, it was a braai and not badly priced at all (R125 pp including one drink and a dessert). The next night we ate at the halfway house restaurant by the golf course, great food and awesome prices as well. At Villa La Ve the glass of wine is really overpriced at R60 a glass (for box wine!!) The other drinks are normal prices, at R10 soft drink and R21.50 for ciders. The pool is freezing though so don't expect to enjoy a nice swim. We enjoyed hitting a few at the driving range. Just down the road is the Farm Inn which offers game drives and helicopter flights =)
The hotel can be noisy if you want a quite night in and the other guests don't, especially if you get room 3 as it is closest to the bar/restaurant area. We went there on a discounted special, i wouldn't pay the full price listed on the website though, it is expensive then.
Had having a look at the 2014 reviews during our stay it was obvious that they had a change in management with beginning of the year, it was of sure a turn for the better!
We stayed three weeks in Jan at Villa La Ve and experienced unforgettable impressions in that B&B. The wide pool terrace is an inviting area where you can relax and while away the late afternoon under the palm trees, they organise special evening events on the the deck only for guests with a breathtaking view onto the golf course.
The standard breakfast is simple, but the chef can prepare everything you want to eat in the morning. The dinner is outstanding, they prepare the meals with love to detail and leave nothing to be desired.
The rooms with en-suite bath are spacious and clean, air condition is working properly.
They try to provide highest level of feeling comfortable to every guest.
What was surprising for us, they manage even to integrate the holiday guests with the business guest. The owner is a big entertainer and communicator, don't miss to have a braai with him. We had a great time with different nationalities from all over the world, it was never boring and always enriching for everybody. The hotel manager is preparing everything in the background, even things you are not asking for. She keeps an eye on every guest but never causes inconvenience.
We highly recommend the hotel and will come back! Thank you for the great hospitality!
