We loved our stay at the Marea Suites and would wholeheartedly recommend it. We had considered a Sensatori stay, having used them before but opted to try something new and we were not disappointed.
One thing that we would bring attention to was the swim-up pool. We paid extra for this and regretted it..... our swim-up was in permanent shade! This was annoying as the cooler swim-up water meant we rarely used our patio or pool. About half of the swim-up pools appeared to get no direct sunlight during the day, very strange planning!
We took our three-year-old and the hotel really looked after his needs, he keeps on talking about Croatia! He loved the kid's pool and the play area, the staff were very engaging with him too.
The free bike hire is a nice touch and we made good use of this. Also we'd recommend a visit to La Pentola restaurant in an evening for one of your inclusive meals, our dinners here in the evening sunsets here were truly memorable.
Newly opened this year, the Valamar Marea Suites is ideal for families with young families, although it does its best to meet those of us who’s children are older, with a teens club, not that my son used it. He was happy to use the pool and great water inflatable obstacle course in the sea, 70 kuna for one hour, although there are different rates for different time periods.
There was a variety of food the sort of thing you would expect from any holiday resort buffet. All good quality, however can be monotonous at times. The hotel operates a dine-around scheme with its other hotels. Highly recommend Spinnaker restaurant on the harbour front in Porec.
The drinks at the hotel are expensive, however they serve international brands. That said, when you’re on holiday you need to be sure to treat yourself to a cocktail or two!
The hotel is very well staffed and everyone is courteous and friendly. They are keen to ensure you’re having a good time.
The hotel is a good 20 minutes walk from Porec, along the front, which is picturesque. However, there is the ‘tourist train’ which stops just outside the hotel and runs into Porec every 20/30 mins until late at 15 kuna per person. In addition, and highly recommended, is the water taxis from Porec, use Blue Taxi. A minimum charge is 120 kuna for 3 people.
All in all I’d highly recommend this hotel, particularly for families with young children/ babies.
Have just returned from
a really memorable and enjoyable stay at Marea Suites. We visited with another family, including 4 adults, two teenagers and two younger kids. As hotel only opened this season everything is shiny and new and super clean.
Amazing accomodation - we stayed in a family room on the third floor, plenty of room, large balcony with fabulous view. Beds were extremely comfortable with pillow menu available. Rooms were also quiet. We stayed on the top floor.
Great food - excellent breakfast selection.
Extensive free activities available - paddleboarding, yoga, aqua aerobics, volleyball. Wanted to mention Marianna one of the fitness instructors in particular who is like a ray of sunshine so enthusiastic and fun. Also free bike hire with a few pre set trails to follow, light to challenging.
Setting - area is beautiful lots of greenery and 20 min walk to small historic city of Porec. We walked there and took a water taxi back to hotel area which was lots of fun.
Great pools - choice of 4 one main one and one small pool with decent slides.
Set on small site, however access to sister hotel 2 mins walk away for lots of activities, wellness centre and gym. Also easy access to beach.
Extra charges - we were half board and all drinks except those for breakfast were chargeable. Water and soft drinks are very expensive. We asked for tap water at dinner to reduce costs.
Lots of kids - this is not a problem for me however this is very much a family hotel with kids ride on toys in reception area, so a word of caution if you would prefer somewhere less lively.
Would definitely return
We stayed for a week at the end of July (2 adults plus 8 year old daughter) and all agreed we had a fabulous time. We loved:
- the room with lovely sleeping area for our daughter with sliding door, free Lego, flip flops her own TV and dressing gown. Free toy and T shirt on leaving. She really felt welcomed.
- the service, especially Ingrid on guest relations who organised a free boat trip and a lovely picnic for my birthday in the near by Island (that had another Valamar hotel on)
- the beautiful brand new free bikes! And Dani who sorts you out with everything you need for exploring the coast by bike (we had three great days out cycling and stopping to swim eat along the way - easy off road routes)
- the pool areas with a couple of pools for our daughter to nip between while we relaxed on loungers, there were some lovely day beds and ‘pods’ but you had to be early or later in the day to get those. Though we did like that you can reserve a day bed at the beach club the day before (but around the pool was first come basis)
- bubbly hour (5-6pm) free sparkling wine and nibbles including ice cream and pizza for the kids. The Vitality bar which was open all day for free water, juice, nuts and fruit.
- the buffet dinner was fine, not amazing but in line with what you might expect, they had a very good bbq station which we found always had the nicest / freshest food. It was good also to use the dine around and get discounts at other Valamar restaurants (or at their local Pentola trattoria it was a totally free fixed menu which was excellent)
- amazing sunsets from the beach bar (live music... though only a couple of nights we really enjoyed... some bad cheesey old covers at times!)
Inside the hotel complex was totally spotless.
The kids club hadn’t really got going at the hotel itself (you had to go to next door hotel which my daughter didn’t want to) but they were transitioning over activities the week we left so expect that will have improved by now. Also they were moving some sports like Pilates over as that was missing too.
Porec is a pretty old town about 20mins on foot - though we cycled or got the Land train.
Returned from a week’s holiday with my wife, and children (6 and 4-year olds). The hotel is brand new so benefits from being spotlessly clean and with all modern facilities. I was a bit worried as we originally booked this before it was built, but we were not disappointed with our choice and would love to go back again. Below is a (long-winded) review:
Location (8/10): about 15-20mins walk from Porec, although there is a tourist land train which stops right outside the hotel and goes every 40mins or so. Situated on a small bay, with a manmade sandy beach, it is perhaps not the most picturesque of views (simply as there is not much other than the sea to look at) but you do get some wonderful sunsets. Not much in the immediate vicinity in terms of bars, restaurants and shops but there was enough for us.
Room (10/10): We have a first-floor room with lovely view across the pools and out to see (i assume all rooms face this way) so could enjoy the sunsets. As it has the sun on it for most of the day the balcony does get pretty hot. The room itself was excellent. The kids loved their "den" and lots of nice touches (like the box of lego) showed a lot of thought has gone into designing them to be family friendly. The bed was large and very comfortable. The welcome bag included flip flops and slippers for the family. The shower was powerful and never failed to have enough hot water available. Huge TV in the main bedroom and another in the den, but "only" about 4 English channels which are all news focused.
Pools / Grounds / Beach (9/10): 3 swimming pools - small kids pool, kids pool with flume and main pool in the main hotel, plus the infinity pool over the path in the Beat Club. Our kids loved the pool scene and we felt comfortable letting them wander between the three of them. Handy towel service allowing you to change them whenever you wanted. There are plenty of loungers around, but the nicer day beds tended to get snapped up early. I usually went for an early swim (between 7 - 7.30 am) and often they had already been "reserved". To be fair, they did tend to be occupied throughout the day, so i was less bothered about this, but unlike other hotels i have stayed at there is no policy (at least as far a i could see) that unoccupied beds would be forfeit - irrespective of the fact I have never seen this enforced anywhere! The beach is just across the path and was small but clean. However, it was very busy everyday as i think it is shared with the other hotel so was less relaxing than the pool area.
Restaurant/ Bar (8/10): there is only the one buffet restaurant on the site, but it was lovely. Standard food choices you would expect including fresh fish, meats (different grilled version each day), pasta, pizza and salad. There is a separate kid’s area, which is very well thought out, but i was surprised at the limited hot/savoury food choices for children. Usually there was only one choice of pasta, sauce, potatoes and veg. I would have expected some kid friendly fish goujons or chicken nuggets as standard to appease fussy children. This contrasted to the sweet selection, which was more plentiful and varied. Overall the quality of the food was very good, and the service was excellent from everyone we encountered. Service was friendly yet efficient and frankly i was surprised how well it all worked despite only being open for a short time. The bar area in the hotel reception is lovely, again with quick service. The Beat Club was a nice place to go after dinner, but really needed a couple more waiters/ bar staff to cope with the numbers of people.
Entertainment (8/10): lots for children to do. There is a small playground and a kid’s club on site and a much larger facility (with full activity programme) over the road at the other Hotel. Plus, the kids area in the main restaurant hosted a different activity most afternoons (slime making and lego building being examples) which our kids really enjoyed. The evening entertainment for adults was more limited. There was a live music act by the swimming pool on a couple of evenings, but otherwise you had to go to the other Hotel or the Beat Bar for evening entertainment. It would have been better if there was something more on the hotel site itself, even if this was just someone playing/singing in the background.
Overall (9/10): a beautiful hotel, in a lovely location, with friendly helpful staff and full of nice touches to make your stay more enjoyable. Examples include the welcome drinks on arrival, the gifts for children (beach ball on arrival, cuddly toy and t-shirt when checking out) and the free flips flops in the room. The whole family agreed this was a great holiday and would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone considering the area. I am sure we will be back soon.
