I stayed a weekend in this new Fairmont which actually is nothing more than a slightly renovated Sofitel. Being Accor Platinum I hoped for something more than a welcome drink but,no. Receptionists were nice ,the french girl accommodating and polite. the security girl or was it a man?, was always gloomy, the room far too small for 350 us and not even free breakfast for Platinum? Any ibis in Asia gets you that. Actually the style seems retro but in my opinion they just re-used the old furniture. I still know the hotel when it was the Sofitel Cassino Atlantico,It was just my curiosity that made me choose this hotel. Certainly not up to Fairmont Standards except for the ridiculous prices.Offering you absolutely nothing for the money. No executive lounge, the lobby is gone, they replaced it with an over dimensional pastry counter.
After the weekend we changed back to the Miramar, faaaar better and half price. And it included even breakfast.
Avoid this place. Another Brazilian Accor Disappointment.
I stayed in this hotel last week from New York City. My experience from the time i arrived through checking out was absolutely flawless. The doorman was so friendly i felt i arrived to my own home. The staff at the Guest Reception were all smiles, friendly and so warm. Mr.Boyomo the Guest Svc Mgr was there to greet me and gave me a lot of info about the hotel facilities and services. The check in experience was superb and truly hospitable. I went to the pool that afternoon and all staff there was attentive. My room is stunning, very clean , equipped with great view of the ocean. Then i went to the Marine restaurant for dinner and the food were delicous and the service is empeccable esp our waiter Rodrigo. The service , the staff and the pool with amazing view are the best part of my stay. I could live in this hotel if i could..... My experience in this hotel is nothing but oustanding.
The Fairmont in Rio has potential to live up to the Fairmont name, although it is not quite there yet. I spent a week there during one of its first opening weeks and well, they still have a lot to figure out to say the least. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful and nicely kept. Prior to our arrival we were given promises regarding our room type due to confusion during our booking, these promises were never granted. In fact, at the time of check-in there was no mention of previous conversations I had, until I had to bring it up. I almost felt like they were trying to get over on us.
Any time I asked a staff member a simple question, the answer was always I don't know. The only exception to this was the wonderful waiter we met named Ramon. Ramon saved our experience. He was helpful, knowledgeable, and provided the customer service you expect from The Fairmont. He was our go to guy and the only person I felt like I could rely on. Given more time, I think this hotel would be 5 star potential. Thanks to the Fairmont Team and especially Ramon for an overall wonderful experience!
We spent three nights at the new Fairmont in Rio. The location is great....at the corner of Copacabana and Ipanema Beach. It was not what I expected from a Fairmont. It felt more like a W hotel. Furniture was ultra modern and very uncomfortable. Bed was great. Breakfast buffet was yummy. Photo is sunrise from our room number 1231.
We booked the Sofitel on Ipanema but were transferred to the Fairmont due to a unexpected renovation. The Fairmont was excellent. Newly remodeled and when I write “newly” I think we were the first occupants in the room. We stayed in a mini suite on floor 9 (975) and it was gorgeous with fabulous views of Copacabana beach. The decor was gorgeous, sleek, expensive, beach like look, sea glass and drift wood. This hotel has two beautiful lounging pools, one for morning and one for afternoon to get sun. Staff was super accommodating and friendly and everyone spoke great English. We enjoyed the bar, again with a view of Copacabana beach, lots of different cocktails, bartender (can’t remember his name but he was originally from São Paulo) was a mixologist. He took tremendous pride in his work, made delicious Old Fashions and was attentive and interesting. Front desk help was superb and the woman who checked us in ( she spent 10 years in the UK) was superb! Oh and super witty... the location of this hotel is awesome, they supply loungers on the beach, we really felt like we stumbled on a real gem staying here. Hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did. One more thing, coffee shop has delicious espresso and gelato.
