This is our second visit to The Lodge on Elizabeth. What a delightful, charming place to base yourself while in Hobart. The property is an old house, circa 1829, converted into motel rooms. Jeff, the host, is lovely and gives all of the necessary info on arrival. We had room 4, a delightful corner room with views of Mt. Wellington. There is a guest sitting room with port, chocolates and tea, coffee, hot chocolate and marshmallows, biscuits, magazines, books, DVDs, cards and games. Tea, coffee etc is also in your room.
Breakfast is included and comprises: a selection of cereals and breads, fruit, juice, yogurt, boiled eggs, tea and coffee all beautifully presented in the dining room with white tablecloths. Location is great too, about a 20 minute walk to the waterfront, Salamanca market and 5 minutes to a wide assortment of restaurants. The airport shuttle bus drops you at the front door. This place has olde worlde charm so if you like historical homes, then you will love the ambience of the lodge.

It is so easy to write a review when a place meets and exceeds your expectations- and that is the Lodge on Elizabeth. What a beautiful building and such wonderful hosts! Our room was cozy and had TWO luggage racks. It is funny but in most of our travels there is only one good place for luggage and the other bag often has to go on the floor. Not here. Everything was clean- spotless. We enjoyed some port and chocolates in the lounge in the evening and chatted with some great folk in town for a cricket match as part of the world cup. Breakfast- well my goodness this was one of the best breakfasts on our 3 week journey. You served yourself and the options were really good- exactly what we wanted. The location- you couldn't ask for better. Easy20 min walk to the CBD and if walking is a problem you can take the bus back. Parking is on the street (with a parking pass from the Lodge) but it feels safe, is easy and there is lots of it. When you park your car there is a back door that lets you easily move your luggage in. Jeff was so willing to help with directions or information- honestly you will not be disappointed in this great Hobart B and B.

Before you open a B&B or if you have a failing B&B then you must come and stay here!

The obvious expectations of great location, lovely large clean room and a comfortable place to stay were all ticked off... and then came the excellent customer service!

I'm guessing when you run a B&B you deal with all sorts of personalities and all I can say is Jeff who I think is the manager is totally accommodating to everyone without being overly in your face or too aloof! He has a natural disposition to look after people and make them feel welcome in the B&B and in Hobart. He was only too happy to accommodate our early arrival and luggage, give us a quick tour of the place and point out all the extra comforts such as complimentary port, tea and coffee in a well stocked reading room, the breakfast room which is beautifully set up and the magnificent gardens which are well maintained and provide a haven if you want somewhere to sit and relax in private.

In addition there's extra considerations like providing car parking vouchers for street parking so that guest vehicles don't receive fines and even discount fuel vouchures which are free to take and which just add an additional level of customer service that most small or large places wouldn't consider.

Of course the room was fabulous and well heated and the corner spa bath a decent size and also very clean.

The location is superb. Up Elizabeth street is an array of great restaurants and bars which Jeff kindly told us about and about 1km down the hill you'll reach the city centre and on Saturdays that includes the fabulous Salamanca markets. In addition if you're an antique lover like me there is the most fabulous and huge antique store directly across the road from the accommodation called Antique Warehouse which is open 7 days a week - with two floors full of antiques the most impressive thing was how well priced everything was. Having done a number of antique trips throughout Tasmania this was certainly one of the more affordable places.

Thank you to Jeff and the staff - an excellent stay and we certainly look forward to returning again and again.

A comfortable piece of colonial history.
The rooms were of a good size, very clean and comfortable.
Could have done with a larger TV for the size of the room.
The continental breakfast was more than you would receive anywhere else.
The owner/managers went out of their way to be helpful.
overall a very pleasant place to stay.

Located in the heart of the restaurant district and a casual fifteen minute walk to the Habour. From the moment we arrived Jeff and Julie made us feel genuinely welcome. The room was clean and comfortable with a sense of old world charm. A real bonus was the parlour where we could sit and enjoy complimentary port and chocolates.
