Breathtaking. Beautiful. Peaceful. Luxurious.
If you are after a 5 star tropical island vacation in Australia. This is it.

Location: A scenic helicopter ride from the mainland to a gorgeous island; fringed in palm trees, warm ocean waters and sand.

Accomodation: we booked the BEACH HOUSE and absolutely loved it. Steps from the beach in a 2 storey villa complete with plunge pool and outdoor cabana.

Service: Top notch. This is what makes Bedarra a stand out. Staff knew our names from the moment we landed on the island. A shout out to Geoffrey, Lance, Andy, Nick, Kitas, Olivia and Jo. Absolutely outstanding and attentive.

Housekeeping: Lets just say when they are called The Ninjas on Trip Advisor reviews. IT’S TRUE. You never see them because when you show up for your meals, the staff strategically call them to start servicing your room. So by the time you return...it’s like the fairies have visited. EVERYTHING is immaculate again.

The food: O M G....amazzzzzzing. Breakfast. Lunch. Dinner. It is truly MICHELIN STAR quality. Lunch and dinner dining can be enjoyed in one of their pavilions or on the deck. The most delicious and appetising meals paired with wines from France, New Zealand, Australia and Italy! We ordered the seafood platter one day and enjoyed it immensely.

6 o’clock pre dinner drinks: Every night before dinner. All the guests meet at the bar for cocktails. At all other times. It’s help yourself. Open bar help yourself. Name another resort in the world that offers this.....I’ll wait.

When we landed on the island we were there for 5 minutes and already loved it. Bedarra Island resort is perfect, picturesque and wonderful. You actually feel like you have the resort to yourself, you hardly see anybody else.
From a couple that have travelled the globe staying in OWB at Bora Bora and the Maldives. Bedarra Island resort is exceptional. It ticks all the boxes and we don’t need a passport to get there.
We cannot wait to return again and again. Frank and Maree

Ps: in response to Lulu....are you sure you were on the same island?! Pretty sure the resort does not tolerate rude and insulting people.

Bedarra Island Resort is like a grown-up theme park. Unlimited booze and the most splendid open bar you ever did see, little tinnies you can take out for the day to explore uninhabited tropical islands with a picnic lunch, kayaks and SUPS to borrow and delish food. The rooms are beautiful, and I loved that we were asked what we'd like in our room's bar before we arrived. The island itself is gorgeous, and the small guest numbers mean you feel like you have it all to yourself.

The staff are lovely! Bonnie is a gem and makes a mean cocktail, and Lance is a sweetheart with a dry sense of humour! Thanks for looking after us and for the excellent banter.

We are keen divers, and wouldn't usually book this kind of holiday, but we had so much fun here celebrating our first wedding anniversary. We also pick our holidays based on their sustainability, which is why we chose Bedarra as they have some great initiatives in place. In saying this, I was disappointed that the resort places single-use plastic water bottles in the rooms and hands them out to guests in the restaurant. When we visit next, I hope to see these replaced with reusable water bottles! A death adder was also killed by staff in front of us which I found horrifying. Snakes rarely attack unless provoked, and most attacks happen when people are trying to kill them. As a sustainable resort, I think you should run your operations in harmony with the other species that call Bedarra home.

Other than these two things, we had an utterly perfect week, and I loved every minute. Thank you.

Response from Sam Charlton, General Manager at Bedarra Island Resort
Responded 8 Oct 2020
Hi Harriet S Thank you for your comments and your wonderful review of your experience on Bedarra. We are glad you enjoyed all the indulgences that Bedarra has to offer to celebrate your wedding anniversary – including exploring nearby uninhabited tropical islands in your own dinghy with a gourmet picnic hamper - which is truly an unforgettable experience. We are also thankful that we were able to source the same wine you enjoyed at your wedding to stock it the restaurant and your mini-bar to enjoy for the duration of your stay. We have a dedicated and professional team on the island who truly love looking after our guests and both Bonnie and Lance thank you for your compliments. We appreciate that a large part of your choice to stay at Bedarra was based upon our sustainability initiatives. We are very proud of the work we have undertaken on Bedarra in relation to sustainability since taking over in late 2011. These initiatives include firstly reducing the number of guest villas on the island, but also converting the island from being powered by diesel generators to now being powered from almost 100% solar power. Other initiatives include replacing desalinated water with natural spring water, using bio-cycle waste treatment plants and reducing, recycling and composting island waste. Since taking over the resort we have saved over 1,8000,000 litres of diesel fuel and have prevented approximately 3,000 cubic metres of waste going to landfill. We have had many discussions both internally and externally with consultants as to how we best provide drinking water to guests in a sustainable manner. In simple terms, a single use bottle is only single use if the person who opens the bottle chooses to use it once. We provide water bottles to guests and also advise that all taps on the island provide beautiful filtered spring water. We have therefore decided that it is entirely up to our guests if they choose to re-use their water bottles during their stay. The bottles are made from recyclable plastic and we stringently manage all waste on the island ensuring that not only all recyclable plastic, but all aluminum and all recyclable glass bottles are returned to the mainland for recycling and not added to landfill. We do not serve water to guests in the restaurant for any meal service in recyclable plastic bottles, but from our filtered cold water taps using glass carafes for both still and sparkling water. Part of the uniqueness of the Bedarra experience is the resort is nestled within tropical rainforest, which we share with a number of species of snakes, including one venomous species being the Northern Death Adder. While snake sightings are relatively uncommon our team normally leave all snakes (and other species) alone and we request that all guests also do the same. I have made extensive investigations with our team to ascertain the exact facts around the incident you mentioned without any clarity on the matter. Not only is killing snakes dangerous, but is also illegal, and under no circumstances are our staff permitted to do so. On the very rare occasion a snake is causing concern in the resort area our team will relocate it into the rainforest. I have sent you a direct email to discuss the exact circumstances of the incident and hope to discuss with you in further detail. Thank you again for your review and we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Bedarra in the not too distant future. Warm regards Sam Charlton Owner - Bedarra Island Resort

My wife and I loved this resort. The staff were very helpful in the booking process. The transfer between Cairns airport and the resort was seamless from when we were met after we got off the plane to when arrived In our room. The villa had everything we needed and more, it was very well maintained and recently renovated.

The food was excellent and the service provided by the staff was very friendly, helpful and efficient. The resort itself was in a great location with a really nice outlook and the grounds were very well maintained. A range of activities were offered or you can simply relax by the pool or on the beach. While the resort is not cheap it is all inclusive once you arrive.

All in all I thoroughly recommend this resort, although you will need to book in advance as it is very popular.

We've stayed in a number of beautiful and luxurious resorts around the world, but the Bedarra experience is better than anything we've had before. On arrival we were met by the manager Jeffrey and ushered straight inside, had a cold Pimms in our hands in 2 minutes and were sitting at our water view table for lunch about 2 minutes after that. At no time during the stay were we asked to sign a piece of paper or do anything other than enjoy ourselves. Our Oceanview room was just beautiful with a stunning view. The food is unbelievable - you would be delighted with it in a top class restaurant and the staff are wonderful - happy, smart and very capable. We felt like we were guests in someone's beautiful seaside residence. It doesn't get better than this - we will be back very soon.

Our neighbours told us that they were having 25 children at their place on Christmas day and the one thing that came to mind was "Bedarra". I have always wanted to go and know many people who have stayed there, so we planned our escape. We had to book a 4 night stay because it was over the Christmas period, which was fine by us.
The Bedarra experience starts as soon as you arrive at their office in South Mission Beach. The gentleman's name eludes me - maybe I'm old - but he was waiting at the bus stop when we disembarked and he took us to the office. Upon arrival we were instantly offered a beverage (beer, wine or champagne). I had a Peroni (actually two) and my partner chose the champagne. He then went on to explain our travel arrangements to the island (either a private boat or helicopter)... we chose the helicopter.
The weather was particularly nasty as we arrived, but our departure to the island was delayed for 20 minutes, however this was only due to their interest in our safety and well-being. Roger was our helicopter pilot... he was very friendly and pointed out things to see as we travelled. As we got closer to the island the rain got heavier but if he was worried about it you would not have known. Roger was a complete professional and it gave two "never been in a helicopter before" passengers absolute peace of mind, and l got to say "Roger, Roger".
Upon landing we were greeted by Katrina (Assistant Manager), who chatted to us under the welcome pavilion while we waited for the rain to subside. Once the rain settled enough she escorted us to the main pavilion and showed us around, after which we were showed to a lovely gazebo area and we were offered a welcome drink. Katrina suggested a Pimm's (with all the trimmings) and it was the best Pimm's we have ever had.
Now, a break-down of the island.

1. The villa
Two storey. Bedroom upstairs. Half bath upstairs and full bath downstairs. Ceiling fan. No aircon...just fine for us. Living area downstairs. TV. Music. Very very clean. Superb bathroom toiletries. Internet in the villa did not work.

2. The Restaurant
As there are only 20 guests on the island at any given time, you can choose your table overlooking the swimming pool and bay vista (tables are not allocated). The waiting staff are all laid-back and friendly, yet extremely professional.

3. The food
Everyday you are offered two entree's, two mains and two desserts for dinner & lunch offered two mains and one dessert. Everything is exquisite in presentation. The chef's should be proud in their work.

4. The rating of the food
For myself, I found the food to be quite exceptional, but on occasion the selection I had to choose from did not appeal to me in both taste and satisfaction. On the other hand, my partner thoroughly enjoyed everything they had to offer. Put it down to personal taste.

5. Activities
GO CRAZY! Kayaks (two seater), snorkling gear, fishing equipment and your own tinnie to cruise around the island. This is all inclusive. Picnic hampers are also available (which are superb). Also walking / hiking trails.

7. Wine & Beverages
Heaven

7. Summary
Our stay here was perfect. Geoffrey (Manager) is a wonderful host as is Katrina. It would be hard to fault anything. My partner took great joy in finally catching the ninja cleaners in our villa - when you stay there you will know what that means ;)

If the owners of this island are looking to adopt I am available!!!
