A lovely old building with smashing rooms - all needs catered for and wanted for nothing. Our room did smell a bit musty but not worthy of complaint - just of note. Also our aircon had a mind of it's own and we were hot all night - I did mention it the following day and they receptionist was very apologetic and told me off (in jest) for not calling her in the evening and letting her know - my fault entirely.
I have seen comment in other reviews concerning the train noise. Well, if you do book here you should do your research and know that the railway line is mere meters away. There is, in my humble opinion, no excuse for not knowing that and therefore do not complain. On the positive side - there was only one train late in the evening that we heard although my wife assures me there were others but their noise was drowned out by my snoring!
We had dinner at the pub across the road - friendly staff and food was OK but if you are looking for a great steak that Rockhampton is famous for you won't get it here.
Would certainly return - love the rooms. Thank you.
For not much more than the very basic motel we stayed in on our previous visit to Rockhampton, we got an enourmous, comfortable, luxury room. This history building is gorgeous, the bed was comfortable, the spa/shower is spacious but the room is so big that it doesn't intrude.
Breakfast was basic. A cooked breakfast would have been welcome even if for an extra charge, but not available.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
We had a room right at the back and I didn't hear any trains, though I'm sure there were some. I might request a room closer to the rail line next time. I love the sound of trains in the night. But if that's not your thing, ask for one at the back.
We will definitely stay here again.
Historic railroads building repurposed into a lovely historic hotel. Room was huge, very clean, comfortable king bed, spa bath, big lounge, well stocked minibar. Nice touches like bathrobes and hotel slippers, and foam ear plugs for sleepers who might get disturbed by noise from freight trains passing by
First up we had a car park facing room and it was very quiet. We only had one freight train go by (that were we aware of as we were still awake when it went by). If more went by during the night we didn’t notice and I’m a very light sleeper but didn’t need the ear plugs. So ask for a quiet room and use the earplugs if you think it will be a problem
The room is really quite luxurious and incredibly good value. My only query is where is the hair dryer? Maybe there was one but we searched everywhere and couldn’t find one.
The dining room looked very classy but we were keen to see the river so opted for breakfast out.
We stayed one night and the room was decked out in old world furniture. Bed was a four poster and very comfortable. One word of caution it is a 10 minute walk into town and there is not a lot in the immediate vicinity. We walked into town to check out a few pubs and eating options. Caught an Uber back for less than $10. Breakfast is included - cereal toast yoghurt fresh fruit tea and coffee. Good value for money in a setting of days gone by.
Fabulous restored old building. Beautiful room. 5 meter ceilings, 4 poster bed, clean well restored antique furnishings . Thoughtful room amenities including bathbomb for the bath. Close to centre but not a lot of eating options within walking distance. Welll priced and a great place to stay
