My son got married at Carlton Towers. The grounds and hall were magnificent, unlike our accommodation.
We booked one of the cottages. Not cheap £500 a night( Thursday) . It had 3 bedrooms with an additional 2 sleeping on a bed settee in the lounge.
Unlike some of the wedding guests our cottage was unavailable until late afternoon, because the cleaners were in!
When we finally got the keys we headed round to drop our cases off and have a relax before the evening festivities.
The bed settee was already made up so we all went out into the garden. The garden furniture was extremely old and brittle, the table was broken and covered in bird droppings .
We decided to have a drink , we scraped together 8 mismatched glasses. . This is supposed to be a self catering cottage , but only had 4 plates. Luckily for us, the previous guests , had left half a carton of open milk in the fridge( how long it had been there we didn’t know!!) so we drank wine instead !!
The dining chair was taped together with insulation tape , which didn’t hold it together, and there was loads of old post , all over the floor near the doorway! Upstairs we found clothing tags Bath panel off the side of the bathand disgusting stained toilet brushes !! ( and the cleaners had been in til after 4pm!! ( allegedly , but at least the beds were clean and tidy. To say I was disappointed in the standard of accommodation and facilities is an understatement.
I did email the hotel and they said they’d look into it. 2 weeks on I’m still waiting..Talk about been ripped off .
On a different note the Wedding was fantastic.
Stayed in the double room at Stapleton Cottages (#3)
Short notice booking after being let down elsewhere.
Still managed to arrange early access for us to freshen up ahead of a nearby wedding which was wonderful.
So many butterflies in the patio garden a lovely bonus.
Only slight issue was that the blind on the door-glass doesn’t stop light entering the room in the morning which was a problem for a light sleeper.
Light breakfast at the tea-room on the estate was lovely.
My mum, ten year old daughter and myself really enjoyed the opportunity to view several rooms of this beautiful house last week during one of their occasional Open Houses. At only £3 per person we booked online and had an enjoyable two hours in the house and their lovely tea room. On arrival we were made welcome by an extremely pleasant gentleman who indicated which areas we could tour and gave us a detailed booklet on the history of the house and the contents of the rooms. We were the only people there that day other than a couple being shown the venue as a wedding location. The gentleman said to ask if we wanted to know more about the house and my daughter took him up on his offer, leading to him showing us specific details of some of the rooms. He was extremely knowledgeable and engaging and happy to answer our further queries. We continued to explore the house upstairs before we went down to the lovely tearoom for delicious cakes and coffee in quaint surroundings. A lovely way to spend a couple of hours we will be recommending the Open House visit to friends and family. Thank you for making us feel very welcome!!
