Loved our stay at Fattoria San Donato. We stayed in the upstairs apartment and had two bedrooms, a couch with cozy fireplace and simple yet well equipped kitchen and bathroom. Everything was very clean and comfortable. The porch was a favorite place to sit and enjoy the quiet days and evenings, with the occasional braying of the donkey breaking the solitude. The pool area is enjoyable, and we even played ping pong. Children and animals are welcome, adding to the family feel of the place. Our hosts were gracious and very accommodating, with our every need being met. We enjoyed every meal we had, with the fare being simple yet delicious. The wines they produce were very good and affordable. Overall, a wonderful experience in the Tuscan countryside in close proximity to San Gimignano. We look forward to returning to Fattoria San Donato.

A quick drive away from the walled city, this working vineyard and olive oil farm was a breath of fresh air after our travels through Rome and Florence. First the accommodations, the room was beautiful, it had a nice kitchen and dining area, comfortable bed and nice space outside to sit and relax with some wine. There is a beautiful swimming pool and lounge area as well.
Out host, Humberto was charming, informative and warm. He recommended several destinations for us to check out and was never too far away if we had a question.
The food was amazing. Book a reservation for dinner and you'll be amazed at the feast that Humberto and his family serve. Seriously, more food than you could imagine and each bite was beyond incredible. The wine flowed all evening and we went to bed with our bellies full.
I would definitely recommend this agroturismo to couples or anyone that wants to stay near San Gimignano but requires more of a country environment.

From the moment I spoke with our hostess on the telephone I knew we had found the right place. I called to enquire if we would be welcome with two cats for one night. Not everyone is keen on such travellers! She immediately suggested a room on an upper floor and you could tell she loved animals and would make us feel at home. So it was. Our room was large and furnished in good taste if rather spartan. There are fancier rooms with more modern bathrooms but this was perfect for our needs. Clean, warm and comfortable. The winery and small farm are in a charming medieoval hamlet. There is a nice garden with a pool exclusive to San Donato and several well maintained little buildings. The owners are lovely, friendly people with a talent for hospitality. We were offered a tasting of their very fineVernaccia, red as well as white, which is produced on site and got a chance to chat about wines and the surroundings. San Geminiano is five minute's drive away and we got an excellent restaurant reccommedation (Dorado').
Next day after a very good breakfast (served until after 11 so no need to hurry!) we were sorry to leave and felt we had made some new friends.

Family of three, we stayed in one of the apartments (Lupino) for three nights. They are slowly renovating the apartments (no work noise when we visited), and ours was one that hadn't yet been done. It was beautiful and old style, with lovely views over San Gimignano and the countryside. Three bedrooms although we needed only two, it was very spacious. Beds were comfy and bedrooms had ceiling fans to cope with the hot weather. Kitchen and bathroom were basic but very sufficient for our needs. Shower was small, but good water pumps/heating ensured a good shower possible at all times.

As others have mentioned, breakfast was not included, but at 10 euros per adult, children free, we though it good value. It's also available from 8-11:30 am which is a plus. Outside there is a lovely pool which is perfect for cooling down after a sight-seeing trip. Lots of shade available under the trees if you prefer. Some of the chairs and sun-loungers are a bit tired now, so could be replaced with newer ones. We also liked the table-tennis table, but this also was a bit old and tired - net needed replacing, and bats were mostly broken. A little more attention to the outside area and amenities perhaps needed ?

All staff were charming throughout, most of which we met seemed to be family, and they were all lovely. We had an impromptu and interesting tour of the wine cellar and chat about the property, which is an active vineyard and often busy with visitors for wine tasting. although busy at times this was not intrusive for us, and after all this is a vineyard! As our room wasn't needed for incoming guests we arranged to stay until 3pm on our departure day at no extra cost, which was nice and allowed us to swim/shower etc at leisure before leaving.

We would certainly return. You are left to your own devices, so it is very peaceful and relaxing. Don't come expected to be pampered with staff running around after you all the time - this is truly a place just to chill-out and enjoy !

Our stay at Fattoria San Donato has been fantastic! This place has everything you need if you’re looking for a special and authentic Tuscan holiday! Great breakfast, pool, get-together with other guests, nice & cosy rooms, great food & wine and wonderful hosts. The family running the fattoria is the most genuine, welcoming and generous we have encountered so far. Thank you for making our first time in San Gimignano so special! Hope to be back one day. Saluti da Bellinzona :)
