We chose this hotel for a short stay to break up a long travel. We contacted them directly and were able to book a family room.
This room was actually a suite consisting of 2 large rooms. The rooms being large was emphasized by them being almost empty for the beds, no TV, little wardrobe, no lights at 2 of the beds.... no nothing actually
The beds were very good though. And the bathroom was clean, and OK, though no-one bothered to clean it during our 2 night stay. Reception times are limited and not always is there non-czech speaker. We fortunately were able to arrange a TV being placed.
Our kids loved the pool, we swam in it as well. It looks a bit merky, but that is caused by the colour of the walls. You smell the pool across the hotel unfortunately.
The restaurant had good food, though it took some time to understand czech cuisine.
We stayed here for 1 night in September.
At check in the receptionist was having a chat with one of the house keeping team for about 10 minutes before even acknowledging us.
We were a bit early so went to the restaurant for lunch. The waiting staff were more bothered about chatting with each other than serving the guests. The food when we got it however was excellent.
Our room was a double 'delux'. Not sure what was delux about it. A double bed in a room that had a wire hanging out of the wall where there was once a television. The free 'quality toiletries' are a squeezy bottle fixed to the bathroom wall. There is no aircon in the rooms so I would imagine they are very hot in the middle of summer.
We used the restaurant in the evening (nothing else in the area). After sitting watching the restaurant staff chatting amongst themselves for 5 minutes we had to go and ask for menus. We gave them the drinks order at the same time.
10 minutes later after looking at our poured drinks sat on the bar we went and got them and asked if someone could come and take our food order. (I should note that the restaurant was not busy and full and that the staff were rushing from table to table)
The kitchen is an open kitchen where you can see the chefs busy at work.
When our food was placed on the serving hatch and sat there for 5 minutes I had to get someones attention so that they knew our food was ready.
I will say though that the food is outstanding. Really really good. And all of the beers are from local breweries which is nice.
Restaurant shuts at 9pm and the bar at 10pm so it was an early night.
Comfy beds and quality linen so a good nights sleep.
Breakfast ( which is advertised as free but is €6 per person) was a repeat of the night before.
It finishes at 10am so we were there by 0845. The buffet was practically empty and when we asked if it was being refreshed we got a non committal shrug/yes. I have just left there at 10am and it was not refreshed with the exception of a fresh plate of sliced peppers / cucumber.
All in all the hotel is lovely. Nice decor, great beds and when the tv is in place (or the wire removed) the rooms will be nice.
The food (when you eventually get it) is superb, really good.
The restaurant waiting staff were terrible.
The hotel is after a big reconstruction and they are building a new big terrace which looks like it will be ready for summer 2019.
Hopefully so will the restaurant staff.
The hotel has been recently refurbished and beautifully renovated. The classic mountain hotel was given a more modern look while still being cosy and comfortable. They are currently working on an extension next to the restaurant, so it isn’t yet fully finished. Rooms are nicely sized and very cosy, featuring wood panelling and wooden furniture. The beds were comfortable, bed linen had a very cute pattern adding to the cuteness of the room. We slept very well every night. Bathrooms are clean and modernly and functionally equipped. The hotel also features an indoor swimming pool.
The restaurant offers both daily and fixed menus, plus a half board option for hotel guests. A roster of Czech classics is mostly well executed and nicely presented. Breakfast was very good, with everything you could possibly want and more, we especially appreciated the spreads (pomazánky), which brought back lots of good childhood memories.
The location is very convenient to explore Šumava, which is a great place to take the family with so many things to see and do!
The emails from the owners welcoming us and saying goodbye were very sweet, they clearly care about the hotel. We were happy about choosing this hotel despite a few flaws that we observed:
- swimming pool: the water was green, murky and slightly too cold, as it was impossible to stay in longer then 10 minutes as the kids’ lips turned blue.
- housekeeping: I was surprised that our room nor the bathroom were not cleaned a single time during our 5 day stay - only the trash basket was emptied. I don’t need a turn down service and a chocolate on my pillow, but a clean sink/floor in the bathroom would be great. Additionally, the restaurant floor was not cleaned after dinner, so during breakfast we were welcomed by rice and other food residues under the tables.
- service - the service was friendly and polite if at times slightly too casual, probably because they have such a young and inexperienced staff.
Despite these flaws it is a great option in this area and when we decide to return to Šumava, we will consider staying here again.
