About Katie C
Lives in Edwards, Colorado
Since Aug. 2011
Though I'm currently living in Colorado, my true home is the South. I lived in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, which instilled a love of southern beach towns like Myrtle Beach, Orlando and Charleston. I live near Panama City Beach for part of the year and have spent many memorable nights in locations like Key West and New Orleans. Diver, hiker, climber, craft beer aficionado, snowboarder, fisherman...I'm up for anything at least once.
Bars & Clubs
Start off your day right with a hearty breakfast at Another Broken Egg Cafe. Featuring omelettes stuffed with almost anything (Crawfish? Avocado?), huevos rancheros, giant pancakes, and an incredibly decadent Bananas Foster French Toast; the menu is diverse enough to tempt everyone in the family. Craving omelets for dinner? Not a problem--they serve breakfast all day.
Featuring a great selection of Gulf Coast seafood with a Mediterranean flair, Cuvee is as well known for its excellent cuisine as it is for its convivial atmosphere and excellent happy hour. For a romantic evening, secure a table; for a more laid back experience, make your way to the bar.
Yes, it may look like a touristy Irish bar from the outside, but just wait until you get inside. No trip to Destin is complete without visiting McGuire's, with its ceiling festooned with dollar bills and turn-of-the-century New York feel. Go hungry and order classic Irish fare like fish and chips or shepherd's pie, and wash it all down with a house-brewed beer.
Don't let its unassuming appearance fool you: Capriccio Cafe is the real deal. Locally owned, Capriccio serves phenomenal coffee, savory and sweet crepes and several excellent lunch items along with a genuine, welcoming vibe from the staff and owner. Stop here for your morning coffee and you'll find yourself returning again and again.
Known for its craft beer selection (a rotating selection of more than 30 craft beers from around the country are offered), The Craft Bar is a must-visit for beer connoisseurs. Warm and inviting, there's also a great selection of handcrafted cocktails and a tasty menu selection featuring upscale pub fare and outstanding burgers — try the Craft or the Que burger.
Perhaps one of the most well-known restaurants on the Emerald Coast, Beach Walk is consistently lauded for its cuisine and its incredible views. Featuring American cuisine with European and Asian influences, the menu features freshly caught seafood as well as 'land' dishes such as venison and steak.
If you're looking for a classic beach shack, the Boathouse Oyster Bar is your place. Running low on atmosphere (think graffiti on the walls and less-than-cushy seating), but high on harbor views and super tasty oysters, Boathouse is the dive you'll be dreaming about when you remember your Destin vacation.
There's really nowhere like the Red Bar for a unique experience that combines funky decor, a laid-back attitude and possibly the best crab cakes ever made — which are only served on Fridays and Saturdays (and tend to sell out quickly). It's usually boisterous and crowded, so just sit back, peruse the many, many decorations, and enjoy the people watching while you're waiting for your table.
