Mika T's City Tips

  • If you don't want to rent bikes, then make sure to book hotels that provide free shuttle services.
  • Renting a motorbike (if you know how to ride one) is highly recommended. It will save you money on transportation costs, as taxis are more expensive but gas is very cheap!
  • Remember to bargain when organizing tours or packages, otherwise you could be overcharged.
  • Service charges are usually added to most restaurants bills automatically, yet tipping a little extra is still appreciated.
  • Many restaurants and massage parlors in the Lagauna area offer free drop offs, so you may not have to worry about getting back to your hotel.
  • If your are not immune to insect bites, then make sure you get a mosquito repellent as there are many of them around during the summer months.

Bang Tao Beach is serene and not too crowded, and for those who want to get a little more active - jet skiing here is a blast. It is one of the best water activities available on Phuket!

    Good for
    • Friends
    • Couples
    • Beach Goer
    • Thrill Seeker
    Tips
    • There are no lines for water sports during low season (the hottest months), meaning you can easily rent jet skis from vendors at the shore.
    • Remember to bargain for a good rate and enough jet ski time.

This is a beautiful, yet serene and quiet beach in Kamala. Far away from the lights and glamour of the Patong area, this beach is more for people looking to relax and enjoy a swim or just sunbathe on its beautiful sandy shores. It is not a very popular beach, so if you want to get away from the crowds then this is a place to be.

A delight for families, couples or friends visiting Phuket - FantaSea gives you an evening full of fun, food, adventure, and unbelievable performances which will create lasting memories. The shows usually draw a full house, meaning the atmosphere is electric - and I highly recommend splashing out on 'gold' tickets, which will give you the most amazing view. The food is great too, along with the way it is served: a huge buffet divided into three sections (Hindu, Muslim and International.) This place is a must for anyone visiting Phuket!

    Tips
    • The food buffet is very lavish, so make sure you have a light lunch before coming.
    • Though there are no cameras allowed during the show, make sure to bring them for the rest of the theme park. There are many beautiful photo opportunities.
    • Animal lovers will be happy to know that this place offers elephant rides. Also, you can see white tigers here and feed the baby tigers too!
    • Be sure to grab a map of the theme park and visit all the attractions; note that some of them are hidden and operate at different hours.
    • Don't bother trying to bargain for these tickets as the price is standard.
    • The tickets are pricey compared to other tours and activities, but it is definitely worth it.

Bangla Road is a place you must not miss when visiting Phuket. For couples or friends on a holiday, this is one of the most happening places on the island. The street is full of fun bars, restaurants, shopping, night clubs, music, and various shows. As you stroll along, be prepared to be stopped many times by touts trying to entice you into their bars or GoGo dancing clubs with the promise of discounts and drinks deals. Simply continue on (if you're not interested), but be sure to stop to browse the great delicacies on offer at any of the street food stalls. The street is open till late, so be sure to explore every inch!

    Tips

    • Bargaining is a must when shopping for anything here.
    • If you are coming here on a bike, be sure to remember where you parked it; there are plenty of bikes here and it could very well get confusing!
    • If you like to shop, then remember to bring some empty bags as the vendors only provide thin, cheap plastic bags.

As well as being a pleasant sandy stretch, Patong Beach is a great area to indulge in the most amazing delicacies of Thailand! The area includes a street full of food stalls - ranging from grilled and barbecued fresh meats, poultry and seafood; to delicious Pad Thai and Tom Kha soups, and even sweet Nutella banana crepes! A must visit for foodies, as well as beach fans.

A popular outdoor adventure destination, here you can enjoy amazing outdoor sports, providing a thrilling experience for nature lovers. Start with white water rafting, which is a 5km to 7km stretch taking around 35 to 45 mins; before continuing on to experience other amazing adventures such as ATV rides, a flying fox (zip lining), and elephant rides. There is also an amazing baby elephant show and monkey feeding area to explore, meaning fun for all the family.

    Tips
    • This national park is usually visited via a half day tour. Food is usually included and quite tasty.
    • Your valuables can be kept in lockers, which are provided for a minimal charge or sometimes free.
    • Sandals are fine - no need to wear trekking or sports shoes for this trip.
    • Rafting operators might try to upsell you to a 7km stretch instead of 5km; it's not much of a difference, so if you're a first-timer, stick to the 5km stretch.
    • When buying a tour, be sure to bargain for a good price.
