Melbourne, A Favourite of Mine

My Daughter and I travel to Melbourne every year, we find it an easy city to get around, with many good Restaurants, Theatre, Laneways, Shopping and lots more. Trams are easy to use but you need to purchase a Myki card from a seven eleven store or a news stand, as you cannot pay on the tram, once on board you simply verify your card in the machine. The City Circle Tram No. 35 is a free way to get around it travels around the edges of the CBD and down to Docklands with an audio summary of where attractions are, so you can hop on and off it runs approximately every 10/15 minutes, it runs in both directions. Restaurants in both the CBD, Docklands, Southbank and inner City suburbs like St. Kilda, Carlton and Brunswick to name a few are great, this is one reason we visit Melbourne to seek out the various Cafés/Restaurants, they can be found everywhere especially down Laneways, and of course a visit to Chinatown in Little Bourke Street is a must for yum cha or a meal. Hardware Lane is interesting with Restaurants all along the Lane and the various sprookers trying to entice you into their establishment, some offer free wine or entree to get you through the door, the same goes for Lygon Street in Carlton. De Graves is another foodie lane it runs across Flinders Lane, but their are many others so go exploring. If you like the Theatre then Melbourne has many, but The Regent is my favourite and I have seen many Musicals in this lovely old Theatre, well worth a visit and situated at what is called the Paris End of Melbourne in Collins Street. It is good to walk the streets of Melbourne as you will find all manner of interesting places, their are many grand arcades to explore, but do venture into Royal Arcade that runs from Bourke Street Mall through to Little Collins Street, look up and be amazed at the architecture this is a delightful Arcade with great speciality stores, a must see in the arcade is Hopetoun Tea Room, the window display is magic, and if you want to eat here be prepared to que for a table. Shops are a plenty in Melbourne, from low end to designer. Bourke Street Mall allows you to walk around freely, but be careful of the trams. Shopping precincts such as Bridge Road at Richmond, and Chapel Street will definitely keep the shopaholic satisfied. All up I find Melbourne a great city to visit and can't wait to return.

This is a favorite spot to visit, on a Sunday the markets are lively, and then down to the boardwalk for a walk along the water and lunch at one of the Restaurants. Catch a tram from the city it is only a short trip.
