Basti K's City Tips

  • Melbournians love sports so just go to a pub and join some locals to watch any of the sports which is always on tv
  • Smoking is not really liked under australians so be prepared to not smoke inside anywhere
  • Free water makes every visit to restaurants and bars more comfortable
  • Get a Myki for the public transport and just top up a 3 days pass and you don´t have to worry about any transport issues or anything.

After arriving in central Melbourne, this is a great place to start your 3 day tour. Wandering around the small lanes with a variety of cafes, restaurants and bars for every taste. It´s pretty busy in the mornings as there are heaps of business people around so make sure you get a good spot in one of the places.

The Hardware Societe is a great restaurant french inspired brunch spot with many tasty dishes. I can highly recommend this place for a typical Melbourne bruch. The baked eggs are great and of course the coffee is also good. The place is very popular but nice and cosy and worth the wait. It also caters for for vegetarians and vegans! They also offer have a nice lunch menu if you want to come by later the day.

After having a good breakfastor cup of coffee you should wander around the city centre and have a look at the many boutique stores. I recommend Bourke St Mall or Emporium. A must see of Melbourne is Degraves st, a tiny alley packed with more cafes and little stores, it encapsulates Melbournes cafe culture perfectly. Perfect place to take a seat, enjoy a coffee and people watch.

After some great lunch you should head down to the MCG, Melbournes iconic cricket ground. Its surrounded by the Rod Laver Arena and the Hisense Arena, where the Australian Open take place and the soccer stadium AAMI park. The MCG is an enormous stadium which hosts either Cricket, AFL or Rugby games. You might want to try and get some tickets for any of the sports events or you just have a visit to the MCG museum and do a stadium tour. This is a must see for sports fans and non sport fans you must go here.

After all the activity today its time for a special dinner. This place has a South American tapas style menu and if you weren't told before you wouldn't realise the food is entirely vegan. My personal favourite is the vegan chorizo and you can eat it with one of their many south american imported beers.

Last night in Melbourne, a last time to enjoy a classic Melbourne rooftop bar. Get a drink or two and try some of the many tapas plates on offer here. you can sit back and enjoy the view from the amazing rooftop.
