Here is a perfect way not to just see New York City but experience it, avoiding a lot the cliches.

  • Explore locations featured in this Trip List: New York City
  • Category: Perfect day
  • Traveler type: Culture, Sightseeing, Shopping, Active/Outdoors, Repeat visitors
  • Appeals to: Couples/romantics, Singles, Families with teenagers, Students, Budget travellers , Active/adventure, Tourists
  • Seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall
  • 1. Ahoy New York Tours & Tasting: Chinatown & Little Italy

The easiest way to experience the best Chinatown and Little Italy has to offer, learn a little history and try out a range authentic foods (from fresh mozzarella to dumplings) is Ahoy's food tour, which I have went on several times. The tours usually run from 10:30 - 1:30 ish.

  • 2. The High Line
The High Line, New York City, New York

After the tour, take the 6 train at Canal St up to Bleeker St and head west to the The High Line. The High Line is a real gem of the city with breathtaking views and a number of art installations.

  • 3. Food Trucks

At the of end of the High Line is what they call the Lot where there are always a number of food trucks and a great place to pick up a snack or a drink.

  • 4. Chelsea Art Galleries

The High Line currently ends at Chelsea which happens to be home to a cluster of art galleries highlighting the latest and greatest.

  • 5. Chelsea Market
Chelsea Market, New York City, New York

If you walk down 8th ave to 15th St, you should definitely stop by The Chelsea Market. You can get almost anything here. The freshest seafood, the best chocolate, cheese, gelato, wine, etc etc. You might also stumble upon food/ wine tastings and cool exhibits from time to time.

  • 6. Alphabet City

For dinner and dessert, I recommend wandering around Alphabet City to see what catches your eye. You can get there via the L train from 8th ave to 1 ave and walk east one ave and head south. No matter what you are craving, there is a restaurant for you. But I recommend Porsena for pasta and Lula's Sweet Apothecary for ice cream.
