I have been wanting to visit this hotel for a while now and are planning on visiting next summer for 3 nights. I appreciate it is in the middle of nowhere but we are not really wanting to hire a car. Is it feasible to get a taxi into siena for the day and roughly how much would this be or how would we go about hiring a driver?
I agree with the other answers. We had a car, and I drove all over the area, including in and out of Siena several times. It is a 15-20 minute drive, although that is because of the hills and roads, not the distance. I would contact the hotel and ask them if you are concerned, but I would think it would be no problem at all to get a taxi or other car service through the hotel.
It is about 20 - 30 mins into Siena from the hotel and perfectly feasible in a taxi. Reception will call you one out. I don't know how much it might be but I would guess at about 30 to 35 Euros. Maybe a bit more.
This Summer we tried to get the taxi firms to agree a price in advance over the phone but they won't do this in Italy as each driver charges their own price which leaves you open to the honesty of each driver. We found the prices to be very similar give or take 2 Euros.
Hope this helps you decide.
From Siena to Borgo Scopeto is around 10 kilometers, 15 minutes. I would ask help to the concierge that is absolutely kind and helpful. I am sure that if you go in a low season they can pick up you for a little price.
My guess is that you could get a taxi into Sienna, though I have no idea how much it would cost you. The hotel staff is quite helpful - you might want to email the concierge to ask your question.
Yes very easy and reasonable to taxi to Siena and very convenient as they can take you intothecentre ( if you drive you have to park outside and walk in) we had a car but chose to take taxi to Siena. Met a couple at hotel who hired a driver to take them out each day to explore towns. Hotel can arrange for you. It's magical and glorious location. Don't miss it. Superb property and staff food excellent.
