When traveling in from the U.S., what's the easiest option for getting to Tambor? It seems like most flights go into San Jose, which is pretty far from Tambor. Tambor Tropical's website mentions flying into Liberia, CR but doesn't mention a shuttle service from that airport. They do have shuttles from the Tambor airport, but you'd need to book a separate flight from San Jose to Tambor. Is that the easiest way, or does it make sense to fly into San Jose or Liberia and catch bus/car/ferry/whatever to get to the resort?
Hi! There are Sansa flights available from SJO airport. If you visit their site, you can book a ticket from SJO to Tambor. They usually operate a few times a day. Its always easier to catch a flight but you can also take the ferry from Puntarenas to Paquera or take a bus or drive your own car. If you send us an emal, we'd be more than happy to advise.
Thanks for contacting us. I suggest that you fly into San José Santamaría Int.l Airport, and then take one of the domestic airlines flights to Tambor (25 min. flight). These airlines are SANSA and NATURE AIR. You can always rent a vehicle once in Tambor to get around and do some exploring. You can also drive from the Airport to Puntarenas (90 min) then take the ferry to Paquera (80 min) and then drive from Paquera to Tambor Tropical (35 min). If you need a taxi shuttle, please contact us through our website. Best regards, Juan Carlos Cruz, General Manager.
In my experience, booking a flight with one of the local service airlines to take you from San Jose to Tambor is the way to go. Efficient with your time and reasonably priced.
The front desk staff are very helpful at the hotel. I would encourage you to reach out to them for guidance in arranging a connection.
Good info above and detailed from Jaun Carlos.
Our flight connection did not allow us to catch the local flight so we took a taxi into San Jose, stayed at Hotel Santo Tomas ( recommended ) toured the city and took a shuttle to the ferry at Puntarenas organized by Tambor Tropical. Have fun.
Well I guess it depends on what you are doing before and after. We originally flew in Liberia spent two weeks in Arenal then drove to Tambor via ferry and south to Coronado. Driving is great for travelling and stopping on your own schedule but rentals are NOT the most economical because of the mandatory insurance,
Ditto on the local air. Short flight and lands close to the property. The ferry docks quite a ways away. What may confuse you at San Jose is that the local airline is out the front doors of the airport, down the ramp to the street and then left a block to another parking lot where they have a little terminal. Have fun!
