as a local, I think the recommendations to eat at the Gardens is best. If you have more time, consider dining downtown, or in the FAN District, or the Museum District....just research the web. So many options in our city.

Great local place
Richmond is blessed with a lot of great restaurants and is rapidly becoming a “foodie” destination so Answer is resounding yes.
Absolutely - both on site and off.
We drove to an area nearby on MacArthur Avenue & at a casual place for lunch called The Mill on MacArthur (4023 MacArthur Ave). It was very good. There were several other restaurants w/in walking distance on several blocks there.
As some others stated, there are two good options on site -- the cafeteria and the Japanese Tea House. But the Lakeside area also has lots of good choices that you can find with a simple search and, as someone said above, Richmond has become a "foodie" city so you really can find anything you want within less than 30 minutes from Lewis Ginter.
The restaurant inside the gardens was very good and reasonably priced.
The gardens has two eating options within the gardens both of which are good. A cafeteria style restaurant with good but limited options and a Japanese tea house with table service and more options. Other eating options would be around a 5-10 Min drive away.
