We will be in the area mid September. Both are senior citizens. We are not very active. Casual walks are our thing. I would like to know if the walking trails are marked if they are rocky and steep. Thanks for the help.
You can drive to the Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook. There are a lot of places with wonderful views that you can drive to in the park and around the area!
We did Clingmans Dome and it has places to sit and rest it along the way. It is only a 1/2 mile but steep however my husband has 13 blood clot in his right leg and he went and really enjoyed the walk. We just took it slow. It is well worth the view it is gorgeous.
I don't recall any trails marked easy/moderate/difficult. Perhaps some of the literature will help.
If you go to visitor center they have listing of trails and how long and strenuous they are!
The scenic overlook on the bypass is not difficult at all...beautiful view of the mountains and looks down on Gatlinburg. The park maps will tell you the difficulty of each trail; most are at least moderate, but maybe okay if you just take it slow. My husband and I walked to Grotto Falls a couple of years ago...we are 84 and 62. There are also "Quiet Walkways" marked and they are easy. There are many beautiful pull outs in the park which require no walking at all.
Some of the walks are easy. The overlook is NOT an easy climb. It is a very steep path. If you go slow and take breaks it may be ok. The drive up is easy and you can park and get a good view from the parking area.
