is this Handicap Accessible for someone in a wheelchair?
There are 4 parking areas. Each one is handicap accessible.
This area is easy to reach and good views can be had from a vehicle or from a chair parked on the sidewalk. I also recommend some of the Quiet Walkways between Sugarlands and Alum Cave Trail. Some of these provide paved, wheelchair accessible places to enjoy a stream and some shade.
This is basically just a parking lot with a view over Gatlinburg, but it does have handicap parking spots.
Yes the overlook is accessible but the incline is very steep. It was hard just walking up the path. There is no shade in this area but the view is worth the climb.
Yes, they are fully accessible, many of the attractions in the park are. These overlooks are not shaded and do not have bathroom or picnic facilities. You have to travel on to the visitors center for those.
The area is a paved pull-off parking area so if you have someone with you to assist you in getting your wheelchair out of your vehicle and onto the paved area, I would see no reason why you could not roll your wheelchair in the area to be able to enjoy the scenic overlook and views. Of course, you would know to use your brakes and not get too near the edge of the overlook or too near the traffic that is passing by on the regular road. Have fun and enjoy it. You are amazing and I can tell that you do not let your wheelchair stop you from living and loving and enjoying life!!
