Is there Hi Speed internet in the individual rooms or do you have to go to a common area to get it? Does the restaurant have a menu I could look at with pricing? Same with the bar menu. We are looking to travel to Granada in November. Is there a first floor room for two people from the 16th thru the 18th? Also, does the breakfast come with the room or do you have to pay for that separately? Is the Lake within walking distance or do we need to take a taxi? How far is the Pacific Ocean from Granada? How far is the Lake? And what is the currency exchange there? We will be coming from Playa Coco Costa Rica where they use Colones, 2,000 per US dollar? What is the recommended mode of transportation from Playas Del Coco, CR to Granada Hotel Colonial? The pictures are beautiful and I love all the gorgeous tile.
I would agree with the previous guest. The internet in the rooms is inconsistent. Generally, if you sit around one of the patios , you will get better reception. The breakfast is acceptable but there are nearby places that have excellent breakfast so I would suggest you venture out. One can do alot of interesting activities and excursions from the hotel. I thought the Hotel represented excellent value and I loved the atmosphere.
The internet in the rooms are terrible and inconsistent and also in the common area as well. The restaurant is good for breakfast and I did not eat there beyond breakfast. There are first floor rooms and breakfast can be included into the room rate. The Lake is within walking distance from the hotel. I would not spend anymore than 2-3 days in Granada. I do not have a perspective for traveling from Playas del CoCo CR since I did not travel there.
The currency is cordoba , aprox 27 cordoba to 1 usd, you will find things somewhat cheaper than Coco.
There is access to internet at the hotel, but it is dicey at times. We got it sporadically in our room and in the lobby. We have taken the bus from Coco to Liberia then from Liberia to Granada. You need a cab from the bus stop in Granada to the Colonial. We purchased our round trip tickets for the bus at the motel by McDonalds in Liberia. When we were at the Colonial in February 2015 breakfast was included and was very good. The rooms are very nice and clean. The location of the hotel is very nice for access to restaurants and sight seeing. They also offer reasonable tours, ask for Julian, he is a fantastic guide !
I stayed at the Hotel Colonial for 2 weeks at the end of 2014 so I will try and answer some of your questions. Wifi works pretty well anywhere in the hotel. Our room was very close to the modem so it was great. The rest. only serves breakfast which does not come with the room but is inexpensive and delicious. $6.00-$8.00. There are many places to eat around the hotel and food prices are very reasonable compared to Costa Rica. I think you will be very surprised. The lake front is about a 15 minute walk right through town. Easy walk with lots to look at. Pacific Ocean (San Juan del Sur) is about a 90 minute drive. There are tours or you can hire a driver for the day which works out really great and not too expensive. Not sure about transportation from Costa Rica to Granada, but I do know you won't be able to take a rental car across the boarder. The hotel location couldn't be any better, just a few steps from town center. After our 2 week experience I'm certain we stayed in the best place in town. The currency is Cordoba (exchange rate???) There are banks everywhere so exchanging US to Cordobas is very easy. Enjoy!
Hi. I stayed here in December and LOVED it. Their Wifi reached all rooms and the pool area. They do have a bar menu with pricing that we saw upon arrival. We stayed in a first floor room and it was spacious and quiet. We purchased our breakfast at the hotel. It was by far our greatest breakfast meals in Nicaragua and the cost was less than $10 a plate. The lake is within decent walking distance, about 20 minutes. This hotel was very nice and accommodating. It is very centrally located and has great amenities.
Forgot to say, wifi in rooms and throughout the property. So sit in the central area, bar or pool and email, check messages or post to your heart's content.
I can't speak for menus or availabilty - I just posted a review. Or air, currency conversion etc. But there are nice second floor rooms, a dinner restaurant in season, check directly with hotel for when available. But there are plenty of restaurants minutes walk away if the hotel one is closed. Breakfast is included, and if you are going somewhere, or leaving, a decent box breakfast can be provided. The lake is a very pleasant and level 15 minute easy walk, and the boat tour wharf another ten. If these seems a long way, in reality it's not as you are looking at stuff along the way. The 10 minute final section is along the lake. All the better hotels are clustered around the plaza, and others and restaurants are on the road to the lake, some 3 to 5 minutes away. You'll wander the entire area anyway, so location isn't a problem. Go with what you like. I'd choose a place downtown, like the Colonial, as you'll spend much more time there than on the lake shore itself?
PS...if you are going in November, the weather should be fabulous !!
if you have dollars, look no further as EVERYONE takes them. I go there several times a year from the States and have never exchanged into Cordobas. That being said, the exchange rate - as of last month - the last time I was there - was 1 dollar to 25 cordobas.
Our breakfast was NOT included in our room rate so be sure to ask when making a reservation. The menu was pretty standard and the prices reasonable. However, since you are in the middle of town, there are many places to go for your meals. There is a breakfast place in town owned by an American called Kathys Waffle House that serves very generous size portions.
Personally, I wouldn't walk to the lake as the weather can be very hot and humid. If you plan on taking a boat to the Islets, it is at least a 10 minute drive.
The Internet worked ok for our needs as we didn't require high speed.
San Juan del Sur is 30 minutes from the Costa Rican boarder if you want The Pacific Ocean. From there, Granada would be another 60 minute drive depending on how many oxen happen to be on the road... No more than 90 minutes.
Have Fun in one of my favorite towns.
