when is the best time to plan a visit where the flowers are blooming & weather is mild
We have visited in Sept. and Oct. Both times were ideal weather, and, the gardens are planted with evergreens and non blooming seasonal plants that extend the “flowering” season. It really is unique in the fact that it’s as much a sculpture garden as a plant garden. Be sure to take the boat ride, it’s amazing how they managed the rice fields and the different cultures that worked to make it successful. One of our favorites places!
I agree that springtime would be best for seeing the azaleas in bloom and to enjoy the gardens without the awful humidity that comes to the South towards the beginning of summer. We have not visited the gardens anytime but the summer due to children being in school and, although the gardens were still beautiful, the heat beginning in May and thru until October can be dreadful. I have been visiting the Myrtle Beach area, to include Brookgreen Gardens, for going on 55 years and the heat and humidity are no longer my friends. Go and enjoy in the spring!
The Spring is always a nice time of year in Pawleys Island. The Fall is nice but the flowers are not at peak. Weather isn’t as humid in the Spring either but will be comfortable
April and May seem to have the most flowers in bloom. Overall I was disappointed in the gardens. Heard it is very pretty during the Christmas Holidays.
South Carolina’s weather is just as unpredictable as anywhere else, but the azaleas should be blooming out starting in March. April is always lovely it seems. Early May is good too. Once you get into late May, you run the risk of heat which, at my age, can be a challenge.
April through Oct. would be best, they change the plantings seasonally. I just went to Night of a Thousand Candles, that was gorgeous too.
