When is peak whale watching season?
We went last Saturday 18th August. There were a number of pods just off the end of Moreton Island. It was a great day, very informative with lots of whales to be seen. Eye Spy the custom built catamaran is very stable with easy viewing decks and windows.
I am not an authority on this subject, but I can share the following:-
Different whale migrations occur at different times of the year. (We were there when pregnant mothers were heading north to calve, with non-breeding ‘aunties’ to protect them).
Very occasionally an opportunistic male comes to ’try his luck’, we were told.
Later I believe the males follow north.
Later still nursing mothers and calves head south.
They (the hosts) are confident that there are always some whales to be seen.
If you have a favourite type of viewing in mind I suggest you research migratory patterns of whales of the South Pacific.
I hope this is of some use.
Regards,
Robert
June-July- until end September I believe. now is a good t ime to go I am pretty sure.
Whale watching in Moreton Bay starts the beginning of July and runs through to November. We went in August and saw hwaps of Whales so I believe if you go out between August and October you will have no issues.
I was told in August when the whale migrate to north.
June to November
June to November
According to their website starts June or late May and lasts till October. I always go between June and August and have never been disappointed.
