Lynchburg, Virginia

Is the area conducive to take our bikes and get around? Anyone ever ride a bike to the beach? Was it safe? How long did it take? Any shops along the way?

Yes. You can ride your bike to many restaurants, shopping and grocery. It is safe. There is a bike path to Harper ave which takes you downtown. If you cut over 8th to cape fear a bike path is even better. You can also go down the sidewalks of lake park to get there. The only bad crossing is over Dow rd which is 45 mph with no light. There is a pedestrian crossing and I have never known anyone to have a problem. Just be careful at that one. Park to beach is about 1 mile. There are bike racks at the end of cape fear to lock your bikes up and walk over the boardwalk to the beach. Enjoy!

All of Carolina Beach is Bike friendly. Certain areas may be a little tricky with heavier traffic, but bike paths are well marked and the level ground makes it easy to bike anywhere on the island! Most businesses have bike racks or designated parking sections for bikes.

Yes. I stayed at the park on my cross-country trip and camped there. Depending on the season and time of day, the traffic can be a little daunting, but I met many bikers in the area and no problem.
