Hi, I will be staying at Shindzela in August for three nights, I have rented a sub compact car (Chev Spark or similar) from airport, do I need something larger to get to the camp due to the roads? There is only two of us and we will be staying in the region for one week after. Thanks
Roads are fine:.. your car will work
If there's availability for an SUV take it. The first half to Shindzela is paved but the other half is uneven gravel road. We took it very slow probably 20-30 MPH.
We rented through Avis and the only availability they had was a small car. The desk agent up sold us a higher insurance package which we thought would be fully insured but they still charged us over $500 for stone chips damage UNDER THE CAR which we never checked prior to leaving the lot. We don't know if it was an existing damage or ours from the gravel road. Avoid Avis but there are not that many choices at Hoedspruit airport.
It was amazing how these wildlife would graciously seem appear out nowhere. There are so many places to visit in and around Hoedspruit but definitely do a self drive through Krueger National Park even just for a day. Although Shindzela is right beside Krueger the ENTRANCE to Krueger is over an hour drive.
Enjoy your time in Shindzela, you guys will love it!
Hi! I think that you will be fine as that is the car that our driver picked us up in to get to the airport. The roads are dirt roads with pot holes and so you will want to drive slowly. We also saw a lot of animals while we were driving to and from the airport so keep your eyes open - it is so exciting! Johann was our guide for the week and he was fabulous! Sam is the other guide and he seemed really nice too. Shindzela was an incredible experience and I am really excited for you!
