Shack Up Inn Questions & Answers

London, United Kingdom

Hi, we're are looking at staying at the Shack Up Inn around October 11th/12th en route from New Orleans to Chicago! It seems that the bar area closes around 8pm, is this correct, and if so, is there anywhere local we could have drinks?

Many thanks in advance and very much looking forward to our stay

The Commissary is a bar right next door to the Shack Up and it’s pretty good. Best bars are downtown Clarksdale which is only a few miles away. Ground Zero and Red’s are great

There are restaurants and Blues clubs in the centre of Clarksdale so plenty of places to get a drink.

I do not know what time the Shack Up bar closes, sorry, but I can tell you the Hopson Commissary is just steps away, and Red's Blues Club and Ground Zero, as well as several other places, are just a few short miles away. Red's is our very favorite place for live blues music. One thing to know is that many of the places there are only open on certain nights of the week, so depending what days you are there, will determine where you can go. And ordering alcoholic drinks is completely different than Chicago! Many places let you bring your own bottle in. Read my other reviews for more info on Clarksdale, and feel free to ask me more questions. Roger at "Cat Head" posts up to date calendars on his website and fb page, so it is a good source of info. If you have a couple of extra hours while there, we highly recommend the Delta Bohemian Tour to get a sense of what makes Clarksdale tick. It has a character all of it's own! Enjoy!

Head into town to Reds, an old Juke Joint fantastic place plus there is Levons and a few other bars that will have gigs on.

Then there's the ground zero bar awsome place, go visit Deak Harp too during the day at his shop.

If you ask at the shack up for a taxi they will give you a name and number of a young girl who drives a big 70's caddy i think her name is Britney a lovely girl and the taxi is relatively cheap and comfy.

Enjoy your stay as i'm sure you will have a great time :)

hope the above helps
