Attn The Manager I am trying to book your hotel but like to find out if there is a bus stop or train station near your hotel that takes guest to Downtown Chicago?
Many thanks to you all for kindly replying to my query about public transport to and fro this hotel. Most helpful.
To get a more accurate/faster response try calling the hotel or emailing them directly. Hotels don't always check TripAdvisor. The nearest CTA station is on the Blue Line and it's roughly 30 minutes away via driving and then it takes like another 40 min-1 hr to get downtown, depending on where you are headed.
To clarify my previous post, the bus station is within walking distance from hotel.
You can use the trip planner tool on the RTA Chicago web site as well. This shows full options using Pace bus, CTA bus/rail, and Metra (larger trains that go to Union Station).
Best of luck!
I don't believe there is a train station nearby, but there is a bus station called the Northwest Transportation Center (near the US Post Office). I'm not sure what bus lines service that station or whether any of them can connect you to downtown (my guess is yes). Your best bet is to get a bus that will take you to a CTA Blue line (metro train) which goes straight into the downtown loop. There is a Blue Line station right in the O'hare airport, and two other larger stations with parking lots (Rosemount and Cumberland) outside of O'hare.
To get to bus station from the Hawthorne Suites in Schaumburg, go north on Meecham to Woodfield. Take a right on Woodfield to Mall Drive. Take a left (going south) on Mall Dr. The US Post office is on your left hand side and the Northwest Transportation Center should be visible behind it.
Finally, If you will have cell data access, I would recommend downloading a couple of apps (you can buy cheap smartphones across the street from the hotel at Target store and pay for one month data card - will be well worth it if you save on transportation costs):
A) an application called 'Transit' which gives you options to get from point A to point B, but need cell/GPS access.
B) UBER app - if you get lost somewhere, they are a decent cost-effective alternative to mass transit and are very quick in the downtown area.
