Jim Abernethy's Scuba Adventures Questions & Answers

How much would it cost to dive for my cousin (21 female) and me (23)? We will be in West Palm on August 4-8 and would like to dive. Neither of us have a diving license so do you have a quick course we can do and how much would that cost?

Thanks,

Rachel Carroll

Rachel. No reputable provider will take you on a boat dive after only a very short course. Some resorts do but even that is usually only after a teaching session in a swimming pool and some additional discussion of diving principals. Abernathy does offer something called "Discover Scuba". This is a PADI recognized course which, as the name implies, is intended to give you a taste of diving before you decide if you wish to get certified. Abernathy will take you on a supervised shallow dive from land at a site they use for training. I don't know exactly how much time it will take but would guess at least half a day. I suggest you give them a call and inquire. As to pricing, this is from their website;

This is a great way to try scuba diving without doing a certification course. You’ll get a basic understanding of the sport and enjoy a beautiful dive at the world famous Blue Heron Bridge. Minimum age is 10 years old. Private class $174.95+tax. Bring a friend and you both get $25.00 off! Includes: all rental gear, instructor fees, a short class and an open water dive excursion with one of our instructors.

For any lessons we do require a Medical Statement Form be filled out prior to diving.

If you answer ‘YES’ to ANY question on the Medical Statement Form you will need a doctor to complete the ‘Physician’s Impression’ section of the Form within the previous 12 months.
