Hi Louise,

Yes .. A car is essential when visiting Bruny Island. The vehicular ferry to Bruny Island disembarks at Roberts Point (there is no township at Roberts Point nor any form of public transport on the Island). It is approx. 30 mins to Adventure Bay (main township on Island). It is very easy and inexpensive to bring a vehicle to Bruny Island, vehicular ferries depart approx. every 30 mins costing only $33.00 per vehicle return fare.

Yes you do need a car. Where the ferry lands is not near anything. We didn't even see a bus to take you anywhere. It is a big island and everything is spread out, lots to see but definitely need a car
