Hi Frank,

Water temps may be a bit chilly (low 70's) but the surf should not pose a problem. Check in at the website for san-clemente (include a dot and org).

The weather cam lets you see what the water looks like. Lots of other useful info, too.

Half-way up the pier is a great little bait and tackle shop that is also a snack bar; they have super great fried zucchini spears and awesome sandwich wraps (and other quickie treats) for such reasonable prices.

Don't know how young the kids are or how strong of swimmers they are but, if you can find a lifeguard, try to stay in that vicinity. You just never know about undertow and rip currents.

They can swim, in the ocean, on either side of the pier. The beaches are very clean and great for families.

Yes. There’s a portion of the beach that is designated solely for surfing but, other than that, swimming is allowed unless there’s some circumstance that causes a swimming ban. Enjoy!

Normally, but when we were there, the beach was closed due to pollutants in the ocean, so call ahead!

Yes, they can. However, the north side of the pier is sometimes use for surfers, as the very south side of the pier, but farther down the beach. You would be safe to swim on the south side of the pier, near the pier itself. And they have clean restrooms there as well and it's very safe.

Yes, kids can swim at the Pier. Do watch them carefully because the waves can be a little rough somethimes. Enjoy the lovely ocean , swings and the fun places to eat. Do bring an umbrella if you can as there is little shade to keep you out of the sun.

Um... the pier is at the beach. If you are thinking about swimming in a pool... there is none.

But lots of great sand, waves, seagulls, people, and food... plenty of all of it. Enjoy.
