The John Wayne room includes the following amenities: a microwave, fridge, coffee maker, a table set, and a sofa sleeper. Despite being in the hotel, this room is solely dedicated to him. We have no records previous to the 50's as to which rooms the stars stayed in. However, John Wayne did stay in room 20 in our AAA Motel while filming his last commercial here in Lone Pine. That room includes all the AAA amenities such as a coffee maker, microwave, fridge, as well as a sofa sleeper, whirlpool tub, a plasma t.v., and a view of Mount Whitney.
Thank you for taking the time and consideration to review our hotel,

Plaque in the lobby says John Wayne stayed in Motel room #20 during the filming of his last movie in 1978. Of course it's been renovated. King deluxe suite with excellent finishes (walls, curtains, bed, built ins incl a granite-topped bar. Finally a jetted tub, tv and reception worth of the designation "suite". Affordable luxury.
Sorry, but I have no idea.
Sorry, I can't help you as I've always stayed in the regular motel section. And, it sounds like you're interested in the older Dow Hotel. However, if he stayed in the motel section (as he might've in his later years), the rooms are very good. And, at a
good price in the off-season. I should warn that I understand that some -perhaps all the rooms in the hotel do not have a private bath and toilet. Also, just as the desert can get quite hot on summer days, I know from experience that Lone Pine can get very cold at night. And, the heating and cooling system in the hotel is up to 1920's state-of-the-art, not the 21st century. So, nights might get a bit cold there. All-in-all, I like the Dow Villa Motel. The location is great. Especially, in season when most of the restaurants are open. Enjoy Lone Pine and the desert. They are both special treasures.
I don't know about the John Wayne room. I was in the Roy Rogers room (I think).
This room is in the historic old part of the hotel, which is not AAA-recommended. If you are a Duke fan or history buff, you might want to consider it; if you like modern creature comfort, however, stay in the new and very comfortable section. This is also what the receptionist recommended (and we did).
