As promised I sent an email to friends of ours who live in Bodega Bay. My friend responded "Dogs are not allowed at the Head but you could Goggle California State Parks and go to Sonoma Coast State Beaches to find beaches friendly to dogs. Doran Beach allows dogs on a leash. Dillon Beach in Marin County is a good one... They can run free.

Hope this helps.

I did not take a dog that day and so did not look. In earlier times the dog was allowed on a leash. I think the trails are rather delicate now and much of the vegetation at the lower levels has blown away.

I don't believe they are allowed on the Head trails, which is why I haven't walked mine there, but it's normally cool enough you could leave one in the vehicle while you did the trail.
