Thanks for your very detailed report. Unfortunately we saw your review just after we had booked. Now very apprehensive about staying at this Hotel. I also will be providing a detailed review if the Hotel & services are not up to standard.
Ask for the most recently refurbished rooms as they seem to be of good quality. We did but were denied such room.
I will look forward to your opinion. The bed was comfortable and there was tea and coffee in the room. The decor was old and sad and a bit smelly but the view was wonderful. Our companions enjoyed their seafood meals but we had the beef pie and found it pretty bland and chewy. Our understanding is that renovations will great freshen it up. The lounge was cozy and the ledgers there regarding old wages and guest data were really interesting. The couple with us have stayed there for years and assure us it was charming so hopefully it will be again.
The hotel building looks like an old castle. It's a little quirky getting to your room but it is a nice place to stay. The surroundings are very picturesque, right along a river. I'm pretty sure there are no elevators but the hotel was very clean and the food was great. The room I was in had a really great view and was very roomy. The bathroom had towel heaters which are wonderful! I hope you enjoy your stay.
