Hi I am going to Tombstone in May and want to do this tour but can't get a lot of info online. Do you just turn up or do you have to prebook? I see that is it opened from 10am-4pm. Not sure if you are able to help me but would appreciate it if you can. How much is it, how long does it go for, do they have set times for the tours as in every hour etc?
If you like to be lied to take the tour
its an excellent tour, the guides are very informative, the mine maintains a constant temperature of 60° and is $12 every hour and lasts about an hour
and like gilliansc said its better than the ok coral gunfight...... just down the street is another gunfight a comedy one that was excellent and lasted an hour. as opposed to the ok corals 7 minutes the whole town is a hoot nosey kates saloon, birdcage theatre and the stores are awesome and a trip to Bisbee is well worth it and a mile past Bisbee is the abandoned ghost town and mine the town is full of antique cars and inhabited by 5 ppl ...have fun
You just turn up. I can’t remember how long it lasts or how much it is but not a fortune. Much better than seeing the Gunfight at the OK Corral.
thanks also for the ok corral gunfight info, I was wondering about that, had seen some bad reviews and they don't reply to emails. John M do you remember what the name of the other gunfight was? we are only getting into town about 3pm and so I have contacted Dr Jay for a private walking tour later and he was very accomodating.
I was able to purchase tickets for the tour 30 minutes before it began. Tours were scheduled every hour and last about an hour. The cost was $12.00, well worth the cost of admission.
The tour guide mentioned that they are in the process of readying the "Toughnut" mine that is part of the operation for tours , they intend to offer the tours of the both mines seperately and as a combined package.
Tombstone is a great little town if you enjoy history.
Have a great trip.
We were able to just walk up and take the tour. They do start at certain times but we happened to walk by just as one was starting. It took about an hour. They only accepted cash and it was around $8 per person. They do take you down over 10 stories deep so it is a lot of steps to get back up to the surface again. I highly recommend it but they should warn those who are older or really out of shape about the stairs up. Not handicap friendly but what mine was back in the 1800's :)
