Dear Jessica,

Thank you for your interest to learn more about our sustainability strategy. Madi a Thavha is a Fair Trade in Tourism certified lodge and we are situated in a rural area in Northern Limpopo.

Most of the people visit South Africa because of beautiful nature and the many game reserves and lodges. We offer people a cultural experience, the Venda and Tsonga people are very artistically minded and we established partnerships with about 30 individual artists and craft groups in our area. We swell their products in our CraftArt shop at the lodge and we organise cultural tours to the villages. Our website gives more detailed information about the tours and activities we offer.

Our relationship with the artists and crafters and various community projects is very mutual, we benefit from them and they benefit from us.

Also our staff is very much involved with our focus on rural communities. We trained them various skills in the field of hospitality, tour guiding and arts and crafts. Besides that they work at our lodge they also contribute to the skills development of people in the rural communities.

With our website we not only try to promote our lodges, we also try to put Northern Limpopo on the map as a very worthwhile destination to visit for several days.

Our threats and challenges are to get recognition for what we are doing. We really feel that our business approach is sustainable and based on long-term relationships with people around the lodge. We are quipped to support the process to bring sustainable tourism in our area to a higher level, but to achieve this we need support from government and NGO's to implement sustainable tourism projects.

When you need more information, please let us know, you can also have a look at our website.

Best regards,
