I would recommend late morning or early afternoon. The day we were there the top part of the mountain was shrouded in mist early in the morning, but had burned off by around 10AM, when I rode.
As everyone else has indicated late morning, or afternoon is preferred because of the mist than can hang on in the mornings. We took an amazing whale watching trip in the morning. The whale watching out of Hoonah was by far the best of our 14 day trip. Really truly amazing -- we came home with National Geographic quality photos from that day!
After 10 am was fine and the second group went after lunch, we had rain roll in around 3 pm
I think they only operate mid morning till mid afternoon
We rode late in the day... it was gorgeous! I would recommend doing it as a part of a larger excursion package (they’ll do kayaking + ziprider, for example) as I would do next time if I had a chance!
