I'm wondering where we can do the elephant tour near Siem Reap. Not just 1 hour ride, but preferably playing in the river with the elephants kind of activity.

This is an old topic, but still. You should NOT do elephant tours. The elephants are tortured untill they have no will and then they take tourists on tours. Just google a bit and check the videos how they treat elephants when tourists do not see! Help elephants and do not ride them!

Cruelly taken from the wild or bred in captivity, elephants are separated from their mothers and family groups at just a few months old. Elephants destined for the tourist industry experience great physical and mental trauma. Isolation, starving, hitting and beating are just some of the methods used to initially break their spirits and get them to behave and perform.

The elephant rides happens in the morning at Bayon

South Gate of Angkor Thom city and in the evening from the base of ruins of Bakheng temple. You can ride either up, down or both. You can get up close to the elephants when they are waiting (talk nicely to the keepers).

The location of the elephants during the day depends on the temperature, the amount of tourists etc as the keepers take fond care of them when they are not working. Outside work hours they are not tourist attractions.

Please Never ever ride or trek with elephants. There are ways of supporting and interacting with these magnificent animals through recognised, ethical organisations. They are not designed to be ridden or kept by humans. I know this is an old post but it's still an issue. Please don't support this egregious activity. Rant over. Thank you.

Why would you want to give money to people who exploits animals for their own gain? That is totally wrong.

This wasn't something we were interested in so I am unable to help you. Lots of short rides at the temples though.
