Can someone answer what the beach water is like in Jotien and Pattaya in August? Is it too rough for children (ages 5-11)? Can you see your feet? Water clear?
We were there a few days ago. The water is quite calm, warm, no huge waves and there are safe areas coned off where no jet skis or boats are allowed, the other areas are a bit precarious as the banana boat people come into shore, they come far too close to the kids playing for my liking. The water isn't so clear, I'm not sure about the sewage issues it wasn't evident while we were there. The beach is a bit messy, I kept the locals amused as I came out of the sea with my hands full of plastic bags etc, they're a bit brainless and haven't worked it out that if they did the same the beach and sea would be cleaner.
all of the local area has its sewage emptied straight onto jomtien beach .. it's just had the local police some city workers , local residents and the military doing work on it because the sea water actually turned colour and it's damaged thailands reputation .. but as the newspaper said the locals think this is just putting a sticking plaster over a gaping wound , but most days it's a decent colour , the actaul tide is not bad at all its generally quite pleasant for people of all ages .. hope that helps
The water is not rough but it's not the clearest water like you have other places since the beach is man made and not a natural beach. It's otherwise safe and a lot of kid swim there.
Thank you all for your help/suggestions!
Sea is mostly calm. It is the rainy season then so now and again you can get a sudden strong wind but the waves are still pretty much OK. Jontiem beach is cleaner than Pattaya beach by a long way. If you want pristine waters go to Koh Lan. Short boat trip,
