Tuk-tuk will be fine. 100-150 bath only. The people in Chiangmai are mighty nice. I don't think you will be ripped off here.

Airport Taxi is slightly higher. 200-250 bath.

I got a complementary Airport transfer when I was staying at the Empress in July.

We had a car, but in most of Thailand, Taxi's are always available and are very reasonable. Also at most airports some hotels have shuttle services laid on. You might want to check with the hotel, or ask them to arrange it - careful though, the convenience may cost extra, rather get a taxi that you can negotiate a fair price with, they are not expensive.

we did the transfer in group with a bus, But the time you need is very depending on the traffic. Sometimes it could take 3 hours.

We informed the hotel of our arrival by email and requested a pick up. The reply came within 2 hrs. Here is what I got in reply.

Dear guest, Your airport transfer by hotel shuttle has been scheduled for the arrival of AK856 at 16.25 on 29 July 2017 (through the international gate). Our staff will be waiting for you by the arrival gate with a hotel banner of your name and the message “Welcome to the Empress.” The transfer fee (100 THB/person per trip) can be paid to us at the reception upon arrival. We look forward to welcoming you to The Empress hotel, Chiang Mai.

  Best regards,

Reservation Office

The driver came with a luxury Toyota Bus with a hostess. For the return to airport, make a request the day before departure. In our case the return journey charges were waived.

Five stars!

We stayed here as part of a Thailand tour and the transfer to the airport was covered. Otherwise, they charge 100 baht per person. The airport is quite close, about 19 miles, so taxi shouldn't cost too much.

If you let them know your flight number and time of arrival they will have a driver waiting with your name on a sign. The hotel is about a 10 minute drive from airport.

We did not wait for the hotel shuttle and took a taxi instead because of the low cost. We had 3 people and large pieces of luggage, so we needed to take a large taxi that cost more. (As I remember there was a separate line/queue for large taxi.) It cost 300 baht, about $9.
