Can anyone help me out with a mosquito report? I am wondering if they are even an issue in February?
Just got back and there were definitely mosquitoes there, however, not like we see in Canada in the summer. They're there but not a constant issue - some light bugspray as required will do the trick. Also, the breeze keeps them down during the day, it was at night we noticed them more.
Went at end of December and only got bit one evening after dark at restaurant in jungle area. No bugs during day. We did use bug spray in evenings only.
we just came back no problems
We were there in late October, no issues there unless in the rain forest. Bug spray worked well when we zip lined, if not in jungle areas, it is breezy enough that they do not bother you.
They were not a problem when we were there in January.
We were there in early January. Very little mosquito activity. We went inland to ruins and probably had some there. I did not have any trouble but my boys had a few bites.
Not a bug to be had in San Ignacio in January. San Pedro had a few in the evening at some seaside restaurants but a request for bug spray always took care of that problem.
I did not even see a mosquito. But if you go to Caye Caulker it's almost a quarantee to be bitten by sand flies. They are nasty little buggers that itch worse than mosquitoes. I was told baby oil keeps them from biting, unfortunately after the fact. If you get the bites go to a pharmacia and get Dermoval. It stops the itching. Nothing else I tried worked. I've been home 2 months and still have red spots from the bites.
I did not encounter any mosquito problem in my stay in Belize.
