Are there sand fleas on the beach? Are mosquitos an issue?
Hello, and thank you for your question. Though Belize is in a tropical climate, we do experience distinct seasons. The rainy season, June-Nov, is typically the wettest time of year, experiencing rain showers, and does bring with it some biting insects. We do have measures in place to reduce them as much as possible and rarely receive complaints. The dryer months of the year, we enjoy a relative absence of them. We do recommend that you bring DEET with you and of course sunscreen. Like many areas of the world, mosquitoes do tend to come out after it rains or during the hours of dawn and dusk. Our fresh sea breezes tend to keep the sand flies or "no see 'ems" as they are called here, at bay.
