Budapest Jewish Walk Questions & Answers

Louisville, Kentucky

We only have a Saturday available for this tour. What are the restrictions for entering synagogues and other venues as well as retail due to Shabbat?

On Shabbat, you cannot visit the synagogues INSIDE unless you go for the service. The exteriors of course, and also the Memorial Garden of the Great Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter can be seen from the street side as well. However there are plenty of Jewish related sights and to dos to cover on such days (Saturdays&other holidays) if you have no other option for a tour day so you can still have a comprehensive tour. you cannot tour a synagogue on Saturday- it is closed Friday at 4pm until Sunday morning. Most retail stores are open onShabbat- even in the Jewish quarter.

Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for you but I think I know who might. Her name is “Tippy”. She is a certified guide with viator. She was our personal guide in Budapest this past June. I tried to find her info but can’t locate it. I would suggest you go into the forums in trip advisor. Hope you will be able to get your answer. We loved Budapest. We were there for three days and loved it.
