What are the best caves to visit with an 9 yr old and 10 yr old boys?
Hi Carl I only visited the Victoria Fossel Cave so I have a limited knowledge, also this would be a great cave or the boys. You may choose to do two and get a deal. Enjoy our visit.
Thank you everyone for your feedback i appreciate it.
The wet cave. It's not really wet, but I've taken my little grandsons there and they love it.
we thought the tours were great so I would recommend those that fit into your schedule. For 9 and 10 year old boys any of them should work. I highly recommend the Victoria Fossil cave and the Alexandra cave tours. You can see the Wet cave on your own with no problem. They will also probably like the exhibit in the main office.
The best cave in Australia was Jewel cave near Margaret River area. Jewel cave had great high ceiling areas that are excellent with all the other features in pristine condition. We only went on one cave tour at the Naracoorte Caves, the fossil cave tour. The fossil chamber was interesting, and the guide lets you handle some of the fossils. The display at the visitors center would be great for kids. 3.5 rating for adults and a 4 rating for kids, overall. Two tours of the fossil cave per day.
So sorry I can't remember the names but I do remember Blanche Cave was interesting more for adults than children. I agree that the wet caves are all good. I had a 6 year old and a 3 yr old and they were both interested and managed the steps.
As long as the boys can manage steps the Alexander, Victoria and wet caves are all good. There were children visiting both times we went and they managed. Remember it may be cool and a little darker underground. They should love it!
We have 12 and 13 yo boys, did a few of the cave attractions around Mt Gambier and found the Naracoorte had the most to offer that age - be organised and reserve tix to do walks into the deeper caves. Can do seasonal walks to the cave with bats too. You get great talks from the guides and our boys really enjoyed it - and its always perfect weather!
