Hello, we will be visiting Christchurch Botanic Gardens on or about 23rd April, 2017. Please advise if there are any autumn leaves color to see?
I work at the Gardens, and yes, the Gardens are looking spectacular at the moment. Full of Autumn colours...dress warmly.
Yes, there should be some trees changing colours by then
This is a difficult question as NZ has had their poorest summer in 30 years (as we were told over and over). So the seasons, potentially, are a bit skewed.
April is the autumn in NZ, but whether the trees will be at their peak at that time is something I can't say with any degree of confidence. I'm not a local, so I'm not really qualified to say. What I do know is there are lots of trees in the gardens and they will be a glorious sight when they're at their peak.
The gardens are well worth your time. As for your question I can't answer it honestly as I haven't been there at that time.
There are also great gardens in Dunedin, Wellington and Invercargill
Of course you will love the gardens!
