Sydney Opera House Questions & Answers

New York

My 16 yr. old grandson & I are planning an 8 day visit to Australia in August, excluding travel time from USA. Is there enough time to visit a few cities? Open to any recommendations and suggestions. Are there any performances at Sydney opera house in August? Should we do some sightseeing on our own with guidebooks or take daily sightseeing tours?

Ha mate. Most attractions for oversea tourist are within close proximity of each other. For example the Harbour bridge and the opera house. The ferry service around the harbour. The rocks. Its all there within walking distance. The opera house has a web site which can let you know whats on. Best think to do is decide what your interested in seeing, look them up on the web, look them up on google maps and find out where they are then plan how to see everything in 7 days or so. Domestic flights out of Sydney to Brisbane, Gold Coast or Melbourne are about 1 hour and cost about 70-100 AUD. Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin airlines are the airlines to look up. Good luck and enjoy your trip.

You could do Sydney in 3-4 days. I just finished a trip to Sydney for five nights and got to see everything in Sydney with time to spare. I really enjoyed the I'm Free walking tours which take about three hours and give a great overview for your first day.

4days in Sydney is good. You can do the other 2 days in Melbourne and do Go West tour - Grest Ocean Road.

There are operas throughout the year, I bought I viator pass, I recommend self tours, good luck

Do take tours. We find city tours provide a better overview than you would be able to do on you own.

The hop on hop off buses that are offered in most major cities around the world are usually great. Check the companies TripAdvisor reviews before booking.

The highlight of our Australian trip was the Great Barrier Reef. Pricey, but memorable.

Check the Opera House schedule for tickets.

We were in Australia for 3 full weeks and still saw a very small part of the country. Australia is a huge country like Canada or the US.

If you want to see Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne 8 days will be just ok, as long as you travel by plane between cities.

There are couple of good airlines that offer good prices between cities. We took virgin australia. Distances between cities are huge.

Hi Grandma Rachel

First Welcome to Australia !

Your query has many options I could answer with

8 days will probably get you to see 3 to 4 cities

Sydney is great - 2-3 days

Melbourne is a must 2-3 days

Brisbane if you like theme parks ( movie world) Dream world etc

Sydney -

Opera house darling Harbour is probably 1/2 a day

Taronga zoo - boat cruise with lunch or dinner optional a city tour which you can buy online or at circular quay ( near the opera house )

Day trip - BLUE MOUNTAIN

DAY trip - HUNTER VALLEY WINE YOURS

Melbourne is an urban sprawl with Victorian charm I personally love the city and in 1 trips haven't gotten over it

You have Bourke street - little Italy Swanson street eateries

Then day trips GREAT OCEAN DRIVE TOUR (buy)

MARCH OF THE PENGUINS Phillip island

APART FROM THIS I suggest you visit websites such as visit sydney visit Melbourne

There are plenty of places to see but I have highlighted just a few

If in Melbourne do not miss BRUNETTIS in little Italy fantastic desserts

And VICTORIA MARKETS

AGAIN WELCOME TO AUSTRALIA
