Want to stress it: the museum is not free even if you have Swill Rail Pass. This is one of few museums in Switzerland that are not included in the list of free museums with Swiss Rail Pass

We went after 4pm...I think, on a Sunday & it was free at that time. But look on website & it ought it say. There is a fee to pay most times, but obviously they must have free entrance at certain times.

I think your question has been fully answered by other people but I would add that it is definitely worth the entrance fee. If you are staying in a hotel in Basel for more than one night you are given a public transport pass for zone one which will save you some money..

The entrance fee when I was there was either 14 or 16 CHF, can't remember exactly. But it is well worth it, I spent 3 hours in there and could stayed longer. The fee also includes entrance to another museum in the old quarter (not far from the paper museum), this is all what they call modern art - mmmm....

Hope this is useful.

The first Sunday of every month is free entrance, except the special exhibits section. Adult entrance is Euros 15.- I think.

The museum is worth a visit!

I don't remember for sure, something around CHF 15-18. We were lucky to be there on their once a month free admission day. This museum is not on the list of free museum access that are part of their train pass. I would go there even if I had to pay. Well worth it.
