Thank you for the question. I travelled alone so this was one of must visit places specially because this place has its epic importance through its various visualization through movies and events.
This place do not require any guided tour and will take about an hour's time for the visit.
Worth the money spent but not a place for re-visit.
Hope this revert helps you.
Enjoy the visit to Scala Theater
We were traveling with Perillo Tours and the Company provided a local guide. If you are traveling alone, you can purchase a ticket and you can wander around. While we were there, one gentleman not in our group decided to join us (uninvited) and just hung around and listened to our guide describe the Opera House. She was not aware that he wasn't part of our group since she met the bus when we arrived. No one in our group asked him to leave. So if you are bold you might try this tactic, but you may get a lot of looks and leave if someone asks you to.
You can take a tour with a guide, but we decided to wander by ourselves, either way it is well worth the visit. The bonus of a guided tour is that you get to parts you cannot access by yourself.
I took the backstage tour (I purchased it online before going) and there was a tour guide. I believe it was approximately 1 hour long. They offer them in various languages. Go to the teatroallascala website and you can purchase a tour. I also went to see ballet and opera and recommend that highly. The museum is free when you take the tour. You visit it before or after the tour.
Unfortunately didn’t take the tour as went to see a show, but on being in the teatro would highly recommend visiting
The museum is self-directed. Take as much or as little time as you like. Make sure to take a peak inside the concert hall - it's a jewel box.
We went there without a tour guide. If you are interested in some more information or have some more time at hand it might be worth booking a tour.
