We are Going to visit he museum in August. My husband would like to take his time going through it. I don’t think my teenage daughters will want to spend as much one there. Is there much else to do within walking distance?
There isn’t anything much around :(
If your husband is interested in the history of the D-day landings and the Battle of Normandy then he will want to spend at least half a day in the museum. If the rest of your party do not share his interest then I suggest they go into the city centre which is a 40 minute walk or a 10 minute bus ride from the Memorial. Plenty to do and see for visitors in the city centre. The area immediately around the Memorial is residential and commercial - so not a lot to do there.
Just outside the museum there is a German bunker that they can walk into, there is a cafeteria and small museum
Shop. The ground of the museum are pretty with a lot of green.
There is much to see but not so much to walk; thus it is a matter of time not a matter of distance; if necessary, there is catering to wait (and to eat).
I agree. There isn’t anything else nearby. My only suggestion is you and daughters take the bus tour to the Omaha Beaches which departs and returns daily to and from the museum. Of course, your Husband will also want to tour the historical Beachess as well.
